arreola56445By Jason Kim: The WBC final heavyweight eliminator bout between Chris Arreola (35-2, 30 KO’s) and Bermane Stiverne (22-1-1, 20 KO’s) is looking WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward suffered a shoulder injury, making it impossible for him to headline the March 2nd fight card against Kelly Pavlik. The Arreola-Stiverne fight was supposed to have been the co-main event on that card, but now they’ll have to find another date and venue.

The Stiverne vs. Arreola fight has had problems since it was put together, as they were supposed to fight in December, but the fight later was moved to January 26th. The Arreola-Stiverne fight was moved to January 26th after Ward injured shoulder. It was later moved to March 2nd, but that’s not going to happen now so it’s hard to tell when the fight will take place.

The winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight will become the mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. That doesn’t mean that either of these guys will get to fight Vitali because it’s still unknown if Vitali will continue fighting or if he’ll retire.

If Vitali retires then the Arreola-Stivene winner will likely fight unbeaten heavyweight challenger Tyson Fury for the vacant WBC title.

Arreola really wants to get in the ring already to fight the 34-year-old Stiverne because he really likes his chances to win this fight. Stiverne hits really hard, but he’s sloppy, easy to hit and not blessed with a lot of boxing skills.

Arreola is the much taller fighter and with power that’s almost as good as Stivene’s.
Stiverne defeated Willie Herring and Ray Austin in his last two fights. He looked pretty impressive in winning those fights because his power looked huge and it’s possible that Arreola could have big problems against him if Stiverne is able to land his big shots.
