Ward vs. Kovalev II

By Chris Williams: Former light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev showed some humility in admitting that Andre “SOG” Ward was the better in their rematch last Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s good that Kovalev, 34, is coming out and being a good sport. The last thing boxing needs is another sour loser. It’s time for Kovalev to move on now. He tried his best, but he wasn’t good enough to beat Ward. Kovalev needs to take his career in another direction. If you can’t beat a fighter on two attempts, then you need to move on. The last thing Kovalev needs right now is a third straight loss to Ward.

By Jeff Aranow: Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) gave himself credit for stopping Sergey Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs) in the 8th round last Saturday night in their rematch. Ward denies hitting Kovalev low with 3 consecutive low blows in the 8th. Ward says Kovalev was merely acting like the shots were low, but they were really legal punches. Ward also gives referee Tony Weeks credit for a job well done in working the fight. Weeks appeared to blow the call in scoring it a knockout after Ward’s 3 low blows.

During the Tuesday’s grand arrivals at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Kovalev let it be known that he’s going to take it out on Ward inside the ring for all the talking he’s been doing. Kovalev wants to make Ward and Team Ward pay on Saturday night on June 17.
