Will Ricky Burns step it up in 2011?

By Scott Gilfoid: I for one am hoping World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s) steps it up this year in 2011 and doesn’t decide to milk his WBO title in order to try and hold onto it a little longer. I want to see the guy face a life body and see what he’s made of. We saw what Burns could do with a weight drained Roman Martinez last year in September when Burns got up off the deck in the 1st and won a close 12 round decision.

Image: Hatton renews boxing license, could continue his career – NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: Former International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) has reportedly renewed his boxing license for some reason. Hatton, 31, hasn’t seen action since being flattened a year ago in the 2nd round by Manny Pacquiao in May 2009. Hatton has a million opportunities for big money fights since that day. In an article at the Dailystar.co.uk, Hatton said “I haven’t announced my retirement. Floyd Mayweather Jr. was retired for nearly two years not long ago and he made a successful comeback. It is only 14 months for me. I have renewed my boxing license again with the British Boxing Board of Control in case I decide to box on. I have an open mind really, but promoting is keeping me busy.”

Who will David Haye be fighting in November?

By Sean McDaniel: Yet another attempt at putting together a fight between David Haye and one of the Klitschko brothers recently bit the dust when Haye was unable to agree to a unification fight against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko after the two fighters came to a stalemate over the revenue for the TV rights to the fight. Haye wants to keep the British television revenue, whereas Wladimir wants it to be a 50-50 deal, with it thrown in the pot. As such, Klitschko is now going to be fighting Alexander Povetkin on September 11th, and Haye will have to look at another alternative.

James DeGale – The man has talent

Image: James DeGale - The man has talentBy Ronnie Jordan: The magnificent 7 has just been announced in the UK with a large chunk of our homegrown talent on the same bill. James Degale in only his 8th pro bout is already due to defend his Commonwealth belt. Recently in an interview with Steve Bunce, DeGale claimed he’s already the best in the country, stating “I can’t see anyone domestically taking me 12 rounds.” In a recent article at boxingnews24 the writer seemed to be offended by this statement and strongly disagreed, and the readers also leaving negative opinions about DeGale.

DeGale says he’s “The best domestically” – News

Image: DeGale says he's "The best domestically" - NewsBy William Mackay: Former 2008 Olympic middleweight Gold Medalist James DeGale (7-0, 5 KO’s) already sees himself as the best fighter in the super middleweight division in the UK, saying in an article at Frankwarren.tv, “To be honest, I am the best domestically already…I know I can beat anyone out there at the minute domestically, and I will prove that by taking out whoever is put in front of me.” I’m sure that Britain’s George Groves (9-0, 7 KO’s) would likely have something to say about that, as he’s looked arguably better than DeGale during his short career.

Haye and Khan have a lot in common

Image: Haye and Khan have a lot in commonBy William Mackay: In looking at UK fighters World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s), I couldn’t help but notice all the things that they have in common with one another. It’s actually kind of eerie how much they have in common. Both fighters have weak chins and are susceptible to being knocked out against big punchers. Both are considered unproven at their weight classes. Both are considered by many to be carefully protected fighters.
