Garcia obliterates Salka; Peterson stops Santana; Jacobs defeats Fletcher

Garcia Salka Fight Night-0015(Photo Credit: Amanda Kwok / SHOWTIME) By Jim Dower: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) totally obliterated the much smaller unranked lightweight Rod Salka (19-4, 3 KOs) in an easy 2nd round knockout on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia knocked Salka down three times in the 2nd round. The fight was halted at 2:31 of the round after flattening Salka with a left hook.

“No fight is easy unless you put in the hard work. My fans love me. It has nothing to do with my opponent, because when Danny Garcia is at his best he can beat anybody,” Garcia said after the fight. “I leave it up to Al Haymon to decide my opponents. It doesn’t matter to me. I show up on fight night and always find a way to win.”

Garcia needs to put in a Mayweather-worthy performance against Salka

GarciaSalkaFinalPC_Hoganphotos1(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia’s fight this Saturday night against Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) is really about Garcia staying in line for a big money shot against WBA/WBC welterweight Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015.

This may be Garcia’s only shot at getting a fight against Mayweather, because he could retire after his contract with Showtime expires at the end of next year. Staying in line for a Mayweather fight is very likely the biggest reason why Garcia’s adviser Al Haymon chose to match him up against such a soft touch in Salka.

Weights: Garcia 141.75, Salka 141

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) successfully weighed in today for his 142 pound catch-weight fight on Saturday night on Showtime Boxing against little known challenger Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Garcia weighed in at 141.75lbs and looked in good shape. He didn’t appear weight drained like some fighters do. Salka came in a pound under at 141 pounds. While he was close to the same weight as Garcia, he looked considerably smaller. Garcia will likely look much bigger than Salka after he rehydrates overnight.

What is the career path of Danny Garcia?

GarciaSalkaFinalPC_Hoganphotos3(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Gav Duthie: After successive 4th round stoppage victories over Mexican legend Erik Morales and Amir Khan it seemed like Danny Garcia was destined for pound for pound stardom. With a lovely left hook, sound boxing ability and a quirky father to add personality he looked a pay-per-view certainty. Now I am asking the question where is Danny Garcia going with his career. Despite still being undefeated he seems to be going backwards.

Fighting weight?

Pretty much everyone had Mauricio Herrera beating him in his last fight. He certainly dodged a bullet there. His excuse for not giving him a rematch was issues with making weight yet here is fighting average lightweight contender Rod Salka 19-3 (3) defending his two 140lb titles. If Danny had decided to relinquish his titles I can understand him fighting someone at this level if he moved up to 147 but at 140 this is probably the most pointless fight of the year.

Danny Garcia plans on hunting Rod Salka down on Saturday

SHO_Garcia_Salka-0008(Photos Courtesy of Showtime/Amanda Kwok) By Jim Dower: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) will be back in the ring this Saturday night in what he hopes will be a better fight for him than in his last one against Mauricio Herrera last March.

Garcia says he didn’t prepare for the Herrera fight the way that he should have, and that’s why he had so many problems with him. On Saturday, Garcia will be fighting Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) in a catch-weight fight at 142lbs at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Salka, 28, isn’t journeyman level fighter, but he could very well be on his way to that status if he gets beaten badly by Garcia.

Danny Garcia faces Rod Salka at 142 on Saturday

SHO_Garcia_Salka-0004(Photos Courtesy of Showtime/Amanda Kwok) By Allan Fox: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) will taking the first step this Saturday night towards what could be an eventual big money bout against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr by taking on lightweight Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) at a catch-weight of 142 pounds at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Garcia wants to get his feet wet to find out what he’s got in store for him when he moves up to 147 to face the top guys. That’s why he asked for the fight with Salka to take place at welterweight instead of 140. Garcia wants to find out what it’s like to be hit by a welterweight, and he will in theory be getting hit by a guy that is likely over 140 on Saturday.

Salka: Danny Garcia is in a lose-lose situation this Saturday

salka7By Dan Ambrose: Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) says that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) in a situation this Saturday night where he’s going to take heat from fans no matter what he does in their fight on Showtime at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

With Salka being a lightweight, and a non-top 15 ranked one at that, Garcia can get nothing from this fight for beating Salka as far as credit from the knowledgeable boxing fans.

The casual fans who have no clue who Salka or Garcia is, will be impressed with Garcia if he beats Salka in a convincing manner, but the fans who follow that sport won’t give him full credit because he’s matched against a smaller, less talented, a non-ranked fighter that he’s pulled up to the welterweight division to fight in a 10-round, non-title fight.

Danny Garcia getting ready for 147 with Rod Salka fight this Saturday

garcia6666By Allan Fox: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) will be in the ring this Saturday night against lightweight Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) in a 142 pound catch-weight fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight was originally slated to have Garcia’s two titles on the line for an optional title defense. It appears that Garcia’s adviser Al Haymon made a miscalculation when he selected Salka for Rios to defend his titles against, because the backlash that it created led to the WBA and WBC deciding not to sanction the fight as a title defense.

Danny Garcia: I don’t care what the media says, my fans love me!

garcia67By Dan Ambrose: Speaking in the third person at times, WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) talked today in a media call about his upcoming non-title 142 pound catch-weight match-up with unranked lightweight Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Sounding a bit like he has a chip on his shoulder for some reason, Garcia talked about how he doesn’t care about what the media are saying about him, because his fans love him. The media have been on Garcia’s case ever since he won a controversial decision over Mauricio Herrera last March and refused to give him a rematch to clear the controversy.
