Maloney: Price used the wrong tactics against Thompson

thompson111By Scott Gilfoid: Frank Maloney, the promoter for British heavyweight David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s), says that Price failed to follow the game plan that they had for him for his fight against Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) tonight in Liverpool, England.

The plan was for Price to use his jab and box Thompson, Maloney said. Instead, Price chose to slug with Thompson in a toe-to-toe battle that ended with Price getting knocked out in the 5th round.

Where does David Price go if he loses tonight against Tony Thompson?

price#2By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) has had a 5-week camp with Lennox Lewis to get ready for his rematch tonight against Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) in Liverpool, England, but it may not matter because Thompson is the better athlete, the better stamina, the better chin and the better style to win this fight.

The only real advantage that the 6’8” Price has in this fight is in the power department. That’s it. The 6’5” southpaw Thompson has really long arms for his height, and his arm length takes away Price’s 3 inch height advantage.

David Price’s career could be crippled if he loses to Thompson tonight

price600By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is taking a major gamble tonight in facing 41-year-old American Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) in a rematch at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. It’s a major gamble because the 29-year-old Price has already been knocked out once by the veteran Thompson last February in 2 rounds, and if he gets stopped again by him tonight then it’s going to really hurt Price’s career.

It’s not that Price would be too old to climb his way back into the top 15, but another knockout loss to Thompson would make a definite statement about Price’s chin and his chances of success in the future in facing heavyweights with any kind of power.

Price vs. Thompson – A Repeat Performance? Redemption

price50By John Hoolan: David Price has a chance of redeeming himself in his rematch Vs Tony Thompson on Saturday night. Anything other than a win for Price and it could be the start of the long and lonely road to “journeyman land”.

In the first fight, a fight I along with 95% of other people thought would be an easy night’s work for Price, he was hit with a shot in the 2nd that hit a button that made his legs not work. That happens and has happened to the best, ask Lennox Lewis! I’ll come back to Mr Lewis the legend later.

David Price has a record of 16 fights, 15 wins (13KOs) with 1 loss. Price was talked about as the next big thing in world boxing, a man who would be able to take on and dethrone the Klitschko brothers, then came that fateful night in Liverpool last Feb, when the outsider, the old timer, the man with the name that would look good on Price’s record, did the unthinkable and KO’d Price!

Lewis: David Price has improved his game working with me

price43By Scott Gilfoid: Lennox Lewis worked with British heavyweight David Price 15-1, 13 KO’s) a lot in his recent training camp to help him get ready for his fight against American Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Lewis thinks the time that he put in with helping the 6’8” Price was valuable time for the 29-year-old fighter, as he thinks it’s going to improve his game.

Lewis said as quoted by ESPN “As a past heavyweight champion, I know a lot of things he [Price] needs to do, and working with me has upped his game a lot more.”

Gosh, I sure hope Lennox is right for Price’s sake, because if he’s the same fighter that he was last February then he’s in a world of hurt this Saturday. Thompson had Price flopping around like a big fish on the canvas last February, knocking him out with a right hand to the head.

Weights: David Price 250, Tony Thompson 259

price123By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) weighed in today at a pudgy looking 259 lbs for his fight against once highly hyped British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13KO’s) for their scheduled 12 round rematch at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Price weighed in at 250 lbs, which is pretty close to what he weighed last time he fought Thompson last February in Liverpool.

Price was knocked out in 2 rounds by Thompson in that fight, and Price attributes the loss to being overconfident. I’m not sure I buy that excuse given that I’ve already seen Price get hurt by big punchers in the amateur ranks in Bermane Stiverne and Roberto Cammarelle.

Tony Thompson looking to finish off David Price on Saturday

price43By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday we could be seeing British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) rendered irrelevant in terms of world level boxing if 41-year-old Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) obliterates him again like he did last February in beating by a 2nd round knockout.

Thompson and Price will be fighting once again at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and once again Price will have the hometown advantage; not that it’ll help him if Thompson can land another one of his beautiful right hooks to the ear area like last time.

Price, 6’8”, has reportedly working himself to the bone in training for the fight. He even had Lennox Lewis helping out.

Price thinks his KO loss to Tony Thompson has made him a better fighter

price#2By Scott Gilfoid: Last February, heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) was blasted out in two rounds by 41-year-old Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) in Liverpool, England. The 6’8” Price wasn’t supposed to lose the fight, yet he did and it was a disappointing loss for the heavily hyped Price because his followers had pegged him as a future world champion.

Future world champions like Price aren’t supposed to be knocked out by aging heavyweights like Tony Thompson.

Price is now saying that the loss has made him a better fighter somehow. I’m not sure how, but that’s what Price is saying. At any rate, Price and Thompson will be fighting each other next month on July 6th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Lennox: David Price has to get meaner for Tony Thompson

price#2By Scott Gilfoid: Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is giving British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) a hand in getting ready for his July 6th rematch against 41-year-old American heavyweight Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Lewis thinks Price needs to get meaner for the rematch so that he can come out top this time. Last time they fought, Thompson surprisingly knocked Price out in the 2nd round last February in front of Price’s own British fans in Liverpool.

Dereck Chisora urges David Price to win

chisora4567By Mark Havey: It wasn’t long ago that we saw David Price slump to the floor following a wild swing from Tony Thompson. There was no doubt that Price was in no fit state to continue. Some people have said the punch was lucky and desperate. It was neither. It was heavyweight boxing.

Dereck Chisora is looking to get his career back on track. He was suspended and brutally knocked out by David Haye It wasn’t long ago that we saw David Price slump to the floor following a wild.
