Roach says he was just joking about Marquez PED suspicions

Image: Roach says he was just joking about Marquez PED suspicionsBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is now reportedly saying that he was merely joking when he was questioning how Juan Manuel Marquez had put on muscle weight recently for his fight with Roach’s fighter Manny Pacquiao.

Roach said this as quoted by Fighthype.com when asked to discuss his comments made earlier this week about Marquez’s muscles “I was just joking.”

In an interview earlier this week with usatoday.com Roach said about Marquez “If [Marquez’s body] is natural, I will kiss his a**.”

Marquez: Pacquiao is predictable, not as explosive or as fast as he once was

Image: Marquez: Pacquiao is predictable, not as explosive or as fast as he once wasBy Chris Williams: In analyzing what Manny Pacquiao has lost in his game through aging and the result of moving up in weight to welterweight, Juan Manuel Marquez feels that his game has eroded in a number of critical areas that make him less dangerous.

Speaking with RingTV, Marquez said this about his fight with Pacquiao last November: “Manny has become a more predictable fighter…He was not as fast or explosive as he was in our previous two fights. I feel I won 9 out of 12 rounds.”

Pacquiao-Marquez: Expect a 5th fight between them in 2013

Image: Pacquiao-Marquez: Expect a 5th fight between them in 2013By Chris Williams: With Bob Arum quickly running out of Top Rank stable fighters to feed Manny Pacquiao, we’re likely going to see Pacquiao facing Juan Manuel Marquez for a 5th fight next year after Pacquiao faces Top Rank fighter Brandon Rios in April.

Marquez and Pacquiao are fighting for a fourth time next month on December 8th, and I suppose we’re lucky that it’s Marquez that’s getting the fight because the guy we could have seen a rematch between Pacquiao and Tim Bradley, another one of Arum’s fighters. That would have been fate worse than death to see that again.

Gamboa vs. Farenas on Pacquiao-Marquez 4 undercard on 12/8

Image: Gamboa vs. Farenas on Pacquiao-Marquez 4 undercard on 12/8By Chris Williams: Bob Arum has added a Cuban vs. Filipino match-up to his Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 4 HBO pay per view fight card on December 8th with the addition of Cuban former two time featherweight champion and one time Olympic gold medalist Yurirokis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KO’s) facing Filipino #8 WBA Michael Farenas (34-3-4, 26 KO’s) MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

This won’t be a competitive fight because Gamboa is leagues better than the 28-year-old Feranas. It’s more of a bout that Arum has added to please the large amount of Filipino boxing fans that will be purchasing the fight card on PPV, as well as all the Filipino fans that will be watching from around the world.

Marquez getting older too

Image: Marquez getting older tooBy John F. McKenna (McJack): Almost everyone would have to concede that the 4th fight between eight division champion Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) and WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) will be a difficult fight for both boxers. Having already fought three times there is not a lot to choose from as to which boxer has the upper hand.

Most pundits and boxing fans are of the opinion that Marquez won the Trilogy fight last November, even though according Compu Box Pacquiao landed more punches. But the shots that Marquez landed were more authoritative and on that night in November “Dinamita” stole the show with his ring generalship. Even many of Pacquiao’s most ardent supporters were forced to concede that Marquez out boxed their hero.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4: What it means for them both……

Image: Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4: What it means for them both......by Rusty Nate: I see myself as a fan of the sport and an admirer of every man that has ever dared to lace up gloves and risk their lives for the sake of the people’s entertainment.

Obviously I have fighters that I have preferred watching over the years. Marco Antonio Barrera, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Shane Mosley, Thomas Hearns, Floyd Mayweather and the list goes on and on. When I write about this sport and the fighters in it I tend to try and put my personal thoughts and feelings about my favored fighters to one side and give an objective view or pose a pertinent question that will allow the forum posters to discuss the subject objectively and without unnecessary bias.

Pacquiao-Marquez 4: Six weeks to go and little buzz surrounding this fight

Image: Pacquiao-Marquez 4: Six weeks to go and little buzz surrounding this fightBy Chris Williams: With only six weeks to go before the Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) fourth fight there’s almost zero interest for this fight from the boxing public compared to the three previous times this match-up has taken place. It’s as if the boxing public has grown bored seeing Bob Arum put them together again over and over and over again without letting other fighters get their chance.

It reminds me of how movies get remade repeatedly until they stop making money. We see Home Alone I, Home Alone II, Rocky I, Rocky 2, Rocky 3, Rocky 4, and Rocky Balboa. Bob Arum has done the same with the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, and I think the boxing public if officially sick of seeing this fight take place.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4: Is Manny capable of knocking anyone out?

Image: Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4: Is Manny capable of knocking anyone out?By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has been talking long and hard about how his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) needs a KO to beat 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8th in their fourth and hopefully their last fight with each other.

Roach has set it up to be a case where Pacquiao probably won’t be able to get a decision int his fight, because the judges will want to bend over backwards to give Marquez a decision because of the past three fights between them where Marquez appeared to win but was either given losses or a draw.

Pacquiao-Marquez 4: Less than 3000 tickets remaining

Image: Pacquiao-Marquez 4: Less than 3000 tickets remainingBy Chris Williams: The tickets are literally selling like hot cakes for the December 8th showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Bob Arum of Top Rank. An incredible 13,000 tickets were supposedly sold this past weekend for the mega fight on HBO pay per view.

How many of those tickets were actually sold and how many were complimentary is unclear, but supposedly 13,000 were sold. I guess we won’t know for sure until after the fight and maybe not even then. We’re still not sure what the PPV numbers were for the Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley fight last June because HBO, for some reason, never released them and the only thing we have to go by are the numbers that Arum is reporting.

Pacquiao-Marquez 4: What if this fight doesn’t settle the rivalry?

Image: Pacquiao-Marquez 4: What if this fight doesn't settle the rivalry?By Chris Williams: Supposedly the upcoming fourth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th is supposed to settle the controversy surrounding the previous fights between the two fighters. I don’t know why but this one fight on December 8th is supposed to settle who is and has been the better fighter during all this time.

But what if this fight is just as controversial as the other three? Will boxing fans have to sit through a 5th fight between them to find out? I have a feeling that’s the direction we’re heading in because Pacquiao isn’t going to dominate anyway and the only way he’ll win this fight will be like the last two times he fought Marquez where he was given controversial decision wins.
