Roach to start training Pacquiao on February 14 in Philippines

pac3366By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach will be flying over the Philippines on February 14 to start training Manny Pacquiao in General Santos for his fight against Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao and Bradley are knotted up at 1-1 in the two fights they’ve had with each other. Pacquiao wants to break that tie and end his career and his Bradley series with a victory.

It’s probably not the smartest thing for Pacquiao to do in choosing to train in the Philippines, where he’ll have tons of distractions from boxing fans. He’s also running for a political seat in the senate in an election in May.

You have to wonder whether Pacquiao is looking to kill two birds with one stone by campaigning for the senate spot while also training for the Bradley fight.

Arum says Pacquiao has full range of motion in surgically repaired shoulder

arum5By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is excited about his fighter Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) after he was recently given clearance from his surgeon for him to start training for his April 9 fight against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) for their fight on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The surgeon checked out Pacquiao’s surgically repaired right shoulder and have given him the green light to start training. This is the same shoulder that Pacquiao suffered a torn rotator cuff during or before his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May. Arum is pleased about Pacquiao being ready to go for this fight, and he feels that the boxing fans are going to see a great Pacquiao.

I’m not sure if that’s going to be the case though, because Pacquiao hadn’t looked great in many years. The last time Pacquiao looked really good was in 2009 in his fight against Miguel Cotto. Since that fight, Pacquiao has performed in a so-so fashion. The fights where Pacquiao has shined were in mismatches against a faded Shane Mosley, and mediocre fighters Chris Algieri and Brandon Rios.

Pacquiao says he wants to KO Bradley, Roach pleased

pac3366By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao has told him that he’ll be looking to score a stoppage on April 9 in his third fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao would do well to try and get the 5’6” Bradley out of there, because the last thing he needs is to lose the fight by a controversial decision like he did in their first fight in 2012.

Bradley will be looking to score a knockout on a body shot in this fight, so it makes sense for Pacquiao to look for a KO as fast as he can in this third and likely final fight between them.

Roach: This isn’t the end for Pacquiao

pac63By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is holding out hope that his fighter Manny Pacquiao, who obviously pays him very, very well, will continue his pro career beyond his third fight against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on April 9. Pacquiao will be running for a senate seat in the Philippines in May, and Roach isn’t sure whether he would be able to continue his career if elected into that position.

However, Roach still thinks that Pacquiao won’t be able to resist the idea of fighting while holding office in the senate. He just thinks Pacquiao will continue fighting. You can call it wishful thinking on Roach’s part, because the chances aren’t too good that Pacquiao will continue his career beyond his third fight against Bradley, which few boxing fans want to see.

Bradley: I’m going to be prepared for anything Pacquiao does

bradley44By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley expects to be fully prepared for everything that his opponent Manny Pacquiao could even think of doing in their fight on April 9 at the MGM Gradn in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley, 32, says his trainer Teddy Atlas is going to think of everything that Pacquiao could possibly come up with in the ring, and they then plan on working to negate all of those things one by one. Bradley doesn’t want to be unprepared for the things that he’s going to see when he gets inside the ring.

Pacquiao: If I get a chance to KO Bradley, why not?

Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) isn’t predicting a knockout win in his third fight against Tim “Desert Storm” Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) on April 9, but if he hurts him and has him in trouble, he says he’ll go for the knockout.

Pacquiao is done making predictions for knockout wins, because it’s been seven years since he knocked out his last opponent in stopping Miguel Cotto in the 12th round of a catch-weight fight in 2009. However, that hasn’t stopped Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach from predicting a knockout.

Arum wants Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch, hoping it happens

Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: 84-year-old Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is counting on his money fighter former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) continuing his boxing career after his fight on April 9 against WBO 147lb champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) on HBO pay-per-view.

Arum is hoping Pacquiao will return this year for a second fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) in a rematch. However, for that fight to take place, Mayweather will need to come out of retirement. Additionally, Pacquiao will need to continue fighting despite what happens in the senate election in the Philippines in May.

Bradley: I’ll be ready for anything Manny can do

Bradley_BD7F2217By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) says he’ll be ready for anything former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) tries on April 9 in their third fight with each other.

Bradley blames his loss in his second fight to Pacquiao on him feeling he had to score a knockout in order to win. It’s anyone’s guess why Bradley would feel that he would need a knockout to win in the second fight, because he was given the benefit of the doubt in the first fight in getting a controversial decision given to him in 2012.

Tim Bradley: I should win this fight

YouTube video

By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) feels that he is no longer the fighter that loss to Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) in 2014, and struggled to beat him by highly contested 12 round decision in 2012.

Bradley sees his new trainer Teddy Atlas as having given him a new fighting style, and along with that style, a new approach to each fight going forward. According to Bradley, all he needs to do to beat the 37-year-old Pacquiao in their third fight on April 9 is to eliminate the mistake he made in the past in their first two fights.

Pacquiao says Khan fight didn’t happen because of middle men in negotiations

YouTube video

By Allan Fox: Former 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao says that there were negotiations going on between his side and Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) for his April 9th fight. However, because of middle men on Khan’s side, the negotiations failed to work out. Pacquiao didn’t say who precisely the middle men on Khan’s side were unfortunately, so we’ll never know.
