No Pacquiao, It is not up the Promoter to decide this time

Image: No Pacquiao, It is not up the Promoter to decide this timeBy Klaas Mabetlela: Following his devastating knockout loss to Juan Marquez, Manny Pacquiao gave his customary response when asked about his future. He said it is up to his promoter to decide what is next and there lies the rub. This time Manny needs to make a deeply personal choice about his career, he needs to do what is best for Manny Pacquiao.

Uncle Bob Arum salivated on a rematch and even went as far as mentioning the six times that Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta fought. What disturbed me was that Arum did not even mention anything about the health of his cash-cow who has just spent over a minute probably closest to death he has ever been . Just a second after consoling the crying wife of Pacquiao, Arum was back in a business mode. He should have showed more personal touch under the circumstances.

Pacquiao looked soft in loss to Marquez; he needs to work with Ariza

Image: Pacquiao looked soft in loss to Marquez; he needs to work with ArizaBy Dan Ambrose: Manny Pacquiao lost to a stronger fighter in Juan Manuel Marquez by a 6th round knockout that shocked the boxing world last Saturday night. Marquez, with his new body that his strength and conditioning coach Angel Hernandez helped build, was able to hurt Pacquiao with nearly every shot and knock him down twice in the fight.

Marquez’s strength advantage was clear to all who saw the fight. Each punch was thrown with more power, and Pacquiao only had his speed to rely and not the muscles that he had in the past.

The problem here is Pacquiao didn’t work with Alex Ariza for this fight.

Roach: I thought Pacquiao was about to finish Marquez off

Image: Roach: I thought Pacquiao was about to finish Marquez offBy Eric Thomas: Trainer Freddie Roach was taken by surprise by his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday night. Roach for some reason thought the fight was in the bag and he felt that Pacquiao was on the verge of scoring a knockout in the 6th when he got clipped by a right hand. Marquez was bleeding from a cut on the bridge of his nose, which appeared to be broken.

Roach said at the post-fight press conference “I was going to tell him [Pacquiao] to get back to boxing and sharpshooting the guy. I thought the fight was about over. I didn’t think it was going to last that much longer on our side.”

Pacquiao out-landed Marquez by wide margin

Image: Pacquiao out-landed Marquez by wide marginBy Jason Kim: Manny Pacquiao fought really well for the first two rounds last night against Juan Manuel Marquez, and had he stayed at that pace he’d be the WBO’s “Champion of the Decade” instead of Marquez. Pacquiao out-landed Marquez by almost a two to one margin with 94 landed compared to Marquez’s 54, which showed clearly that Pacquiao was well in control of the fight.

Where Pacquiao made a huge error that cost him the fight ultimately was after he was knocked down in the 3rd round by a big looping right hand from Marquez that he wasn’t expecting. Pacquiao was ready to block that particular punch but he was surprised by the wide arc of the shot, because it was much wider than Marquez’s previous shots.

Roach: Marquez was punching harder than he had in previous fights with Pacquiao

Image: Roach: Marquez was punching harder than he had in previous fights with PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: One of the things that trainer Freddie Roach and his fighter Manny Pacquiao weren’t expecting last Saturday night was the extra power that Juan Manuel Marquez was punching with. Roach didn’t realize ahead of time that Marquez had not only developed more muscles through weight lifting, he had also developed more power on his shots.

That power led to Marquez knocked Pacquiao out cold in the 6th round in a win that extended Roach’s losing streak for his top fighters.

Should Freddie Roach call it a day?

Image: Should Freddie Roach call it a day?By Mark Calooke: 5 time trainer of the year, Freddie Roach has long been regarded as the best trainer in the world. His gym is world famous and boxers from different counties travel miles to spent their camps there. If you think of all of the champions Roach has had its clear that he has been a huge success. But as a coach he is far from perfect.

Roach has had a dismal year. Back to back loses have left many doubting his ability. The 24/7 series aired to promote Pacquiao vs Marquez was very telling. Freddie admitted that he has been doubting himself and suffering from lack of sleep because of this. I’m not saying he isn’t a good trainer. I have so much respect for him but always feel sorry for him. His Parkinson’s has progressed and this may or may not be a contributor.

Marquez hits jackpot with KO of Pacquiao; rematch will make him millions

Image: Marquez hits jackpot with KO of Pacquiao; rematch will make him millionsBy Allan Fox: You have to think of Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) as someone that just won a huge lottery with his 6th round knockout of boxing star Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) last Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victory means a lot more money for Marquez in a rematch with Pacquiao, a lot more than the guaranteed $6 million that he made this time around.

Marquez will make more than the $6 million for this fight after the pay per view upside money comes in, which will likely take Marquez close to $10 million if the fight brings in 1 million PPV buys. In a rematch, Marquez could make much more than that but not as much as Pacquiao.

Marquez shocks the world with a lucky punch

Image: Marquez shocks the world with a lucky punchBy Mark Calooke: This weekend the great Manny Pacquiao was beaten by his long time and long suffering rival, Juan Manuel Marquez. All it took was 6 rounds and the hopes and dreams of a entire nation were sprawled out just like Manny Pacquiao.

I was just happy to see a knock out. It didn’t matter who as long as it didn’t go the distance. But it was interesting to see the wrong man win. Interesting because the wrong man won their last fight as well. It seems there is no justice in boxing.

Marquez: I knew Pacquiao would be wide open

Image: Marquez: I knew Pacquiao would be wide openBy Allan Fox: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) captured the WBO “Fighter of the Decade” title with a brilliant 6th round knockout of Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) last night in front of over 16,000 fans at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marquez later said he knew Pacquiao was going to come out aggressive looking for a KO in this fight because he’d been talking about wanting to do that for weeks now.

Marquez worked on his right hand so that when Pacquiao rushed forward, like he did last night, Marquez would be able to hurt him. This is exactly what happened in the 6th round when Pacquiao came forward quickly in the last seconds of the round and attempted a jab. Marquez then came over the top with a perfect counter right that sent Pacquiao into oblivion for 1 minute.

Pacquiao’s KO loss finishes any thoughts of a Mayweather-Pacquiao mega fight

Image: Pacquiao’s KO loss finishes any thoughts of a Mayweather-Pacquiao mega fightBy Chris Williams: Last night’s knockout of Manny Pacquiao by Juan Manuel Marquez drove the final nail in the coffin of a possible mega fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight, if it were to still happen, won’t be the mega fight that could have been now.

The knockout for Pacquiao showed clearly that a fight with Mayweather is now possible, at least terms of the huge cash that could have been made. And with Bob Arum talking Marquez-Pacquiao 5 next year, it’s really not going to be possible to make a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight that will bring in the big bank that it could have made. I expect Pacquiao to get knocked out cold again if he fights Marquez again, and then who in their right mind would want to pay to see Mayweather and Pacquiao fight?
