Pacquiao: I’ve fought bigger guys than Marquez

Image: Pacquiao: I've fought bigger guys than MarquezBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) says he’s not worried about all the extra muscles that Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) has put on recently with the help of his expert strength and conditioning coach Angel Hernandez, who is the best the business right now in boxing in building strength. Pacquiao thinks his talent will bring him to victory on Saturday night in Las Vegas despite him being the smaller guy in this fight.

Pacquiao said to RingTV “It’s not about size. This is not about size. Ive’ been fighting the bigger guys, guys bigger than me, so it’s about how you punch in the ring.”

Pacquiao, Mayweather & Marquez : The Truth

Image: Pacquiao, Mayweather & Marquez : The TruthBy Glenn Findlay: Now that we are all heralded in to the epic brutal finale of the absorbing conflict that is ” Pacquiao vs Marquez 4″; the reality about the three preceding battles and Mayweathers towering dominance of Marquez needs to be finalized once and for all. I’ve read the same squabbling quarrels on this website that because Mayweather governed Marquez in such an unparalleled fashion and Manny always has had a close hellacious war with the Mexican; that Mayweather will easily dominate and dictate Manny if they ever exchange colliding blows. This is quite illogical in the eternal boxing philosophy that “styles make fights”.

A theory never more appropriate when the legendary Roberto Duran beat Sugar Ray Leonard, who then pulsated Thomas Hearns, who had already demolished Roberto Duran into a pulp within 2 rounds. Hearns then subsequently got battered by Marvelous Marvin Hagler, who was then narrowly beaten by Sugar Ray Leonard. This context is just as imperative when scrutinizing the styles of Mayweather, Manny and Marquez.

Image: Hunter picks Marquez to beat PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Oakland based trainer Virgil Hunter, who helped make WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward the fighter he is today, is going with Juan Manuel Marquez to top Manny Pacquiao this Saturday night in their huge mega fight in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hunter sees Marquez as being the wrong fight for Pacquiao at this stage in his career, and he thinks Marquez will be even better now that he’s working once again with his strength and conditioning coach Angel Hernandez.

Pacquiao a 4-1 favorite to beat Marquez

Image: Pacquiao a 4-1 favorite to beat MarquezBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao has reportedly been installed as a 4-1 favorite by the oddsmakers to defeats Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night in their fourth fight. It’s interesting that Pacquiao is the favorite in this fight because he lost his last fight against Tim Bradley and he appeared to lose to Marquez last year in November.

The oddmakers need to follow the sport a little closer, because I don’t think it’s a good bet to pick Pacquiao as the winner in this fight, unless we’re betting that the judges are going to give him another controversial victory. In that case it might be understandable that Pacquiao is being seen as the favorite in this fight.

Pacquiao not looking confident or energetic in training for Marquez

Image: Pacquiao not looking confident or energetic in training for MarquezBy Chris Williams: You may have already noticed that Manny Pacquiao looks listless, unmotivated and lacking in confidence as he trains for his fourth and possibly his final fight with Juan Manuel Marquez this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao may not be keeping the late hours that he once did in his life, but he looks haggared and without the fire that you see in Marquez with his training. If you’re a Pacquiao fan you have to be more than a little concerned with how he’s looking, because he looks even worse than he did going into his last fight against Tim Bradley last June.

Roach: Pacquiao is going to shut Marquez and Beristain up

Image: Roach: Pacquiao is going to shut Marquez and Beristain upBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach thinks this is going to be the fight where his guy Manny Pacquiao will finally beat Juan Manuel Marquez by a knockout so that he it give Marquez and his trainer Nacho Beristain no ammo to complain afterwards.

Pacquiao hasn’t been close to knocking Marquez out yet, aside from his three knockdown performance in the first fight with Marquez in 2004. Marquez was never hurt in that fight even in getting knocked down three times in the opening round.

It was more of a case of him not ready for the speed that Pacquiao was hitting him with, and the shots just kept knocking him down due to force knocking him off balance.

Ariza and Roach wasting time trying to get more aggression from Pacquiao

Image: Ariza and Roach wasting time trying to get more aggression from PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza and trainer Freddie Roach are trying to extract more aggression from Manny Pacquiao so that he can beat Juan Manuel Marquez by a knockout or at the minimum a decision that can’t be questioned by boxing fans.

It’s pretty pointless really, because the whole idea behind trying to get Pacquiao to be more aggressive really revolves around getting Pacquiao to a more youthful stage in his career when he was able to move well around the ring, throw a lot of punches, and fight with a great deal of intensity. Pacquiao isn’t doing those things anymore. When Pacquiao does fight hard, he gets leg cramps, he tires out, and then he takes punishment.

Marquez: Pacquiao is predictable, not as explosive or as fast as he once was

Image: Marquez: Pacquiao is predictable, not as explosive or as fast as he once wasBy Chris Williams: In analyzing what Manny Pacquiao has lost in his game through aging and the result of moving up in weight to welterweight, Juan Manuel Marquez feels that his game has eroded in a number of critical areas that make him less dangerous.

Speaking with RingTV, Marquez said this about his fight with Pacquiao last November: “Manny has become a more predictable fighter…He was not as fast or explosive as he was in our previous two fights. I feel I won 9 out of 12 rounds.”
