YouTube video

By Allan Fox: #1 WBO Oscar Valdez (19-0, 17 KOs) and #2 WBO Matias Carlos Adrian Rueda (26-0, 23 KOs) will be fighting it out this Saturday night for the vacant WBO World featherweight title in the co-feature bout on the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the 25-year-old Valdez’s moment in the sun to shine after four years as a pro. Valdez’s promoters at Top Rank haven’t thrown him in with the dangerous guys like Vasyl Lomachenko, Nicholas Walters and Gary Russell Jr.

Valdez has competed in the Olympics twice in taking part in 2008 and 2012. He was eliminated both times by superior fighters. As a pro, Valdez has found things a lot easier, as he’s not been matched against the high quality fighters as of yet. Valdez did defeat former IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich by a 4th round knockout last April. However, Gradovich hasn’t been the same fighter since fighting to a 12 round draw against Jayson Velez in November 2014. Beating Gradovich now isn’t such a big deal because his career has really tanked in the last two years.

Lomachenko to stay at 130; Oscar Valdez faces Rueda for vacant WBO 126 title

lomachenko8

By Eric Baldwin: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says his fighter unbeaten Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) plans on staying at 130lbs rather than moving back down to 126 to resume defending his WBO featherweight title, according to Dan Rafael. Lomachenko recently moved up in weight to super featherweight earlier this month and defeated WBO 130lb champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-3-3, 17 KOs) to capture his title on June 11 at Madison Square Garden, New York.

Lomachenko’s now vacant WBO featherweight title will be fought over next month by unbeaten #1 WBO Oscar Valdez (19-0, 17 KOs) and #2 WBO Matias Carlos Adrian Rueda (26-0, 23 KOs) on July 23 in the co-feature bout on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oscar Valdez stops Evgeny Gradovich

valdezBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich’s struggles continue, as he was halted in the 4th round on Saturday night by unbeaten Olympian featherweight Oscar Valdez (19-0, 17 KOs) on HBO PPV on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley at at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Valdez, 25, dropped the 29-year-old Gradovich in the 4th round with a left hook to the head. The referee then stepped in and halted the fight at 2:14 of the round. Gradovich was hurt, and the right side of his jaw was badly swollen, as if there was some potential injury there. You can argue that the fight should have been halted in the 3rd round because of the one-sided nature of the contest. With this win, Valdez captured the vacant WBO NABO featherweight title.

Evgeny Gradovich vs. Oscar Valdez possible for Pacquiao-Bradley 3 card

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking to beef up the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 fight card with a lot of Hispanic talent in what appears to be a way of attracting fans to purchase the card on HBO pay-per-view. One fight in particular that Arum is working on finalizing is a fight between two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez (18-0, 16 KOs) and former IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich (21-1-1, 9 KOs) in what would be a 10 round fight.
