Mike Perez possible for January 9th in Santa Ynez, California

perez34By Allan Fox: #4 WBC heavyweight contender Mike Perez (20-1-1, 12 KOs) could be fighting on January 9th against an opponent still to be determined at the Chumash Resort in Santa Ynez, California.

Perez might not fight on this date if they can’t find an opponent for him. There’s only six days left before January 9th, so it’s quite possible that his management may not be able to find an opponent for him.

Adam Booth’s corner work with Mike Perez in loss to Jennings leaves a lot to be desired

boothBy Scott Gilfoid: If you saw last night’s heavyweight WBC eliminator bout between #3 WBC Mike Perez (20-1-1, 12 KOs) and Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KO’s) on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Geale fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, you’ll have no doubt noticed how limited and lost Perez’s trainer Adam Booth was when it came to giving him any functional advise in the corner.

I’m not even talking about the fact that Perez came into the fight at a career-high of 242 pounds and appeared to be a good 25 pounds overweight, what I noticed was how repetitive Booth’s instructions were in between rounds. Perez needed some clear instructions in order to help him get past what proved to be difficult opponent for him in Jennings.

Perez faces Jennings tonight in MSG

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KO’s) and Bryant Jennings (18-0, 10 KOs) will be fighting tonight in a WBC heavyweight eliminator bout at Madison Square Garden in New York. Jennings, 29, is the favorite to win, but Perez, 28, has a great chance of pulling off a minor upset if he can put enough pressure on Jennings to get him out of his zone.

It really wouldn’t be much of an upset if Perez wins, because Jennings hasn’t proven anything with the guys he’s beaten because none of them would have lasted against Perez either.

Weights: Jennings 222.6, Perez 242.2

perez77(Photo credit: Will Hart/HBO) By Chris Williams: In what shapes up to a 50-50 fight, #3 WBC Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KOs) and Bryant Jennings (18-0, 10 KOs) weighed in on Friday for their WBC heavyweight eliminator bout on Saturday night on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Geale clash at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Cuban Perez weighed in at 242.2 pounds. At 6’1”, Perez is stocky and powerful looking. He doesn’t appear to be that height. He’s probably closer to 6’0” than 6’1”, but it really won’t matter much because his opponent, 29-year-old Bryant Jennings, is only 6’2”, but with an incredibly long reach of 84.”

Mike Perez injured, fight against Bryant Jennings off

perez784By Jim Dower: Unbeaten #5 WBC heavyweight contender Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KO’s) suffered a shoulder injury while training, and he won’t be able to make his May 24th WBC heavyweight eliminator fight against unbeaten #4 WBC Bryant Jennings (18-0, 10 KO’s) on May 24th at the American Bank Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. This is a huge blow for the 28-year-old Perez and for boxing fans, because the Perez-Jennings fight had promised to be an exciting fight between two highly talented and unbeaten heavyweights.

The winner of the Perez-Jennings fight was then supposed to fight for a world title once the smoke cleared in the outcome of the Bermane Stiverne vs. Chris Arreola, and then the Deontay Wilder vs. the winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight.

Bryant Jennings vs. Mike Perez WBC eliminator bout ordered

perez111By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council has ordered a WBC heavyweight title eliminator bout between #3 WBC, #4 WBA, #9 WBO, #11 IBF, Bryant Jennings (20-0-1, 12 KO’s) and #5 WBC, #8 WBO, Mike Perez (18-0, 10 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. This would be a second WBC title eliminator, because Deontay Wilder already fought in a WBC title eliminator bout last Saturday night in stopping Malik Scott in the 1st round in Puerto Rico.

It’s unclear why the WBC wants to have two eliminators for the WBC champion, but the idea is that the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title on May 10th will then be faced with the uncomfortable task of having to fight back to back mandatory title defenses against first Deontay Wilder and then the winner of the Jennings-Perez fight.

WBC orders Bryant Jennings vs. Mike Perez eliminator bout

By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council has ordered a WBC heavyweight eliminator bout between #4 Bryant Jennings (18-0, 10 KO’s) and unbeaten #5 WBC Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KO’s) to pick out a mandatory challenger for the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title in April. With the WBC ordering Jennings and Perez to fight, it makes me wonder what the WBC has in store for #3 WBC Deontay Wilder.

Mike Perez’s stock drops badly after gift draw against Takam

perez66By Scott Gilfoid: The WBC might want to make an adjustment on their heavyweight rankings to move Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KO’s) from #5 WBC to something closer to #15 after his horrible performance last night in getting what many boxing fans saw as a gift 10 round draw against little known Carlos Takam (29-1-1, 23 KO’s) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

There’s no way on Earth that Perez deserved a draw in that fight, because he clearly lost the last 7 rounds of the fight. It was all Takam from the 4th round on with him beating up Perez on the inside and exposing him as being little more than a pumped up cruiserweight with too much blubber on his frame. The judges scored it 96-94 for Perez, 95-95, 95. I don’t agree with those silly scores at all. You might as well have put blindfolds on the three judges and had them guess the rounds, because those scores would give you the same results. Anyone with two eyes saw that Takam beat up Perez on the inside and fought well enough to deserve the win.
