Mayweather will fight beyond Berto clash, says Rosado

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Dan Ambrose: Many fans believe that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will continue fighting beyond his next fight on September 12th, which is believed to be against WBA interim 147lb champion Andre Berto. The money for that fight won’t be anything near the money that Mayweather made in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last May, and it might prove to be a more difficult for Mayweather.

Berto isn’t the type to back off after getting hit by a few right hands like Pacquiao backed off. Berto will continue to fight and look to land hard power shots in retaliation with his fast hands. Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado thinks that Mayweather’s ego won’t allow him to stay retired for long.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and the curse of being number 1

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Yannis Mihanos: To be at the top spot in any sport means that you have beaten the best out there. Still, the quest as number 1 never ends.

To stay on top and reign supreme means that you still need to work hard, you still have to take care of business. There is no rest for the number 1. So except from a gift, it can also be seen as curse for those who can’t handle the pressure.

Today in boxing, things have changed and don’t happen like they used to. Often fighters to stay on top for long periods of time choose the easy way out: They take on lesser challenges more often, they pick opponents that can easily beat with eyes closed and hands tied.

Issues holding back Mayweather’s September 12th fight

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr’s September 12th fight is being held back by issues involving his future fights if he chooses to continue fighting beyond his September 12th date.

According to Dan Rafael, Showtime/CBS wants rights to Mayweather’s future fights if he decides to keep his career going after his next fight date. Supposedly, this is going to be Mayweather’s last fight of his career in September. However, if he changes his mind about retiring and decides to sign up with HBO to go for his 50th win of his career, Showtime/CBS is looking to protect their investment, says Rafael.

Mayweather vs. Berto is a good fight if it’s on CBS, says Kellerman

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao By Allan Fox: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. does go ahead and fight former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto on September 12th, HBO analyst Max Kellerman is all for the idea of that fight taking place, as long as it’s on CBS and not pay-per-view.

Kellerman thinks that Berto is a well-known fighter in terms of the casual boxing fans, and it makes a lot of sense for Mayweather to fight him rather than guys like Kell Brook, Keith Thurman or Amir Khan, who either haven’t looked good recently or aren’t well-known to the American public.

Ariza: Mayweather is waiting to kick Berto’s behind

arizaBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza says that Mayweather is training hard for his potential fight against former IBF/WBC welterweight Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ariza says that Mayweather can’t wait to whip Berto’s backside when he gets him inside the ring.

Mayweather is taking his training as serious as he always does even though he’s facing a lesser opponent than what he’s become accustomed to. Berto may in fact turn out to be a tougher opponent than Mayweather’s last opponent Manny Pacquiao, who looked like he gave up after the 1st round after tasting Mayweather’s right hand.

Mayweather-Berto isn’t even a fight, says Victor Ortiz

ortiz54By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KOs) says he doesn’t even see the September 12th match-up between WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) and former IBF/WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) as an actual fight. Ortiz says he sees it as an embarrassing fight, and that he thinks both guys should retire from the sport. However, Ortiz, 28, says he would still like a rematch with Mayweather so that he can try and avenge his 4th round knockout defeat that he suffered against him in their fight in September 2011.

“You know what? It’s embarrassing, bro,” Ortiz said to TMZ.com about the Mayweather vs. Berto fight on September 12th. “That’s not even a fight.

The two fighters have been in negotiations to try and iron out a fight for the last couple of weeks and supposedly the negotiations are done.

Is Mayweather showing unsportsmanlike behavior by not giving his opponent time to train?

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Yannis Mihanos: They say absolute power corrupts absolutely. While still waiting for the official announcement of the next opponent for unbeaten WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) for his next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada, I couldn’t help but thinking that phrase.

Not to give to your opponent, whoever may be, (Andre Berto, Amir Khan…etc.) enough time to train and prepare puts you (Mayweather) immediately ahead of the game.

Why Mayweather is not TBE [The Best Ever]

Floyd MayweatherBy Rick Jones III: One of the many things that seems to blind fans in boxing is the fact that everyone is equal. I have been around the sport of boxing for more than 30 years. I have seen and lived in and out of the ring. Boxing is a battle field and that’s where every fighter does his talking and proving their worth.

Boxers train for months to with stand 12 rounds of unpredicted hits and moves in a ring that contains the best of the best. The only person that can successfully be a boxer is the boxer himself, everything outside of the ring means nothing. People need to understand that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just like every other fighter.
