By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) is hoping to fight himself into a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next September if the 26-year-old Ortiz can beat his next scheduled opponent Luis Collazo (34-5, 17 KO’s) on January 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Ortiz would then need to fight Danny Garcia, and the winner of that fight is a possible opponent for Mayweather next September. That’s a tough task for an inconsistent fighter like Ortiz to beat both Collazo and Garcia without melting down mentally and tripping himself up in some manner or another like he’s done in the past.
