Can Maidana beat Mayweather?

mayweather555By Gavin “neds” O’Connor: On September 13th, Marcos Maidana and Floyd Mayweather Jr will be meeting in a rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first fight produced and provided many talking points and opinions on both sides that are still beings “debated” with a high degree of emotion.

From the fans points of view there is a strong belief amongst Mayweather’s fans that the tactics employed by the unbeaten champion were calculated and for the fans benefit and entertainment going “toe to toe” with the hard hitting Argentinean and adjusting in the later rounds to incorporate more success after weathering an early storm of “dirty” tactics from Maidana.

Robert Garcia: Mayweather is tipping off the referee by complaining about Maidana being a dirty fighter

maidana45By Chris Williams: Trainer Robert Garcia is upset the way that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) has been calling his fighter Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) a dirty MMA type fighter during his interviews and press conferences for their September 13th rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garcia thinks that by Mayweather constantly bad mouthing Maidana’s physical style of fighting, he’s tipping off whoever the referee and judges will be for the fight to watch what Maidana is doing and not give him credit.

Garcia says he’s going to talk to the referee before the fight and tell him that’s how Maidana fights, and ask him to let him use those tactics for the fight. Garcia also says that Mayweather does illegal stuff with his elbows by sticking them out and by pushing off with his forearm, so he’s not a clean fighter either.

Garcia: Maidana is going to mess Mayweather up real bad!

garciaBy Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia says that his fighter Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) is going to be putting constant pressure on WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) for the full 12 rounds in order to wear him down and hurt him in their September 13th rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garcia says that Maidana will be in better shape for this fight than in Mayweather-Maidana I, and that the better conditioning will enable Maidana to work the 37-year-old Mayweather down to punish him.

Mayweather: The Puppet Master

floyd988By Jermill Pennington: Leading up to the Floyd Mayweather Jr.(46-0-26 kos) vs. Marcos Maidana (35-4-31kos) 2 bout it seems the posturing and gamesmanship has begun. During the five city promotional tour for the fight both camps engaged in some serious trash talking.

For Maidana you would imagine all the slandering being thrown around would seem a bit frustrating being that he can’t join the fun due to a language barrier. However, his trainer Robert Garcia has been more than willing engage in the verbal combat that has taken place over the past week.

Mayweather-Maidana 2 press conference dominated by Pacquiao questions

_DSC7673(Photo credit: Idris Erba) By Gav Duthie: Floyd Mayweather Jr 46-0 (26) should have detected a hint of indifference at his rematch with Marcos Maidana 35-3 (31) by the worlds media as questions of Manny Pacquiao dominated his press conference. When asked about the Filipino he responded:

“Don’t talk to me about that [expletive]. That [expletive] still got [Juan Manuel] Marquez problems”.

Mayweather’s answer can be construed one of two ways.

Mayweather v Maidana 2: Time to clean up

floyd222By Gavin”Neds” O’Connor: Welterweight fighter Fritzie Zivic was once asked to comment on his reputation as a dirty fighter. Zivic’s reply was, you’re fighting, and you’re not playing the piano.

With the fast approaching rematch between WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) and Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) on September 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and in light of the perceived roughhouse tactics employed by Maidana in the first Mayweather fight last May and the suggestions by some that his delivery was dirty, is the criticism justifiably warranted?

Maidana plans on throwing more body shots against Mayweather this time

_DSC7379(Photo credit: Idris Erba) By Allan Fox: One of the mistakes that Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) feels he made the last time he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) was by head-hunting too much when he had him trapped against the ropes last May.

Maidana spent much of the time trying to club Mayweather with shots that frequently missed by a wide margin with them flying over his head. Maidana failed to make corrections by lightening up on his power so that he could improve his accuracy, and most of all he feels that he failed to direct punches to the body of Mayweather where he was a lot more vulnerable.

Mayweather interested in going after win No.50 for the right price

_DSC7843(Photo credit: Idris Erba) By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 O’s) hinted this week that he may opt to continue to fight on after his remaining 3 fights of his 6-fight contract is through next year. Mayweather will be 49-0 at that time if he continues winning, and he says he’d be willing to stick around to pick up win No.50 if Showtime wants to offer him another contract.

Mayweather’s current deal is said to be a 6-fight, $200 million contract. But if Showtime wants to offer him some additional loot to keep him around for another contract, he says he’d be interested in that.

Mayweather said “If the price is right for number 50, then it’s possible. Everyone knows I have a certain deal [with Showtime/CBS], but if Stephen [Espinoza] gives me another deal.”
