Martin Murray still bellyaching about his loss to Sergio Martinez

murray64By Scott Gilfoid: Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) is still having a tough time coming to terms with his 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

Instead of seeing as a situation where he himself gave the fight away by hiding behind his guard for 12 rounds and not throwing enough punches, Murray is complaining about the judging of the fight.

Murray said “If it was fair scoring then I would have got the decision, but it was always an uphill battle in Argentina…there’s no way I’ll get another opportunity…I had him down twice, bossed him…I’ve proven I belong at the world level.”

Sergio Martinez suffers fractured left hand; will miss the remainder of 2013

martinez43By Allan Fox: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) really paid the price for his 12 round unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) from last Saturday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Martinez broke his left hand in the 2nd round of that fight, and re-injured his right knee, which he had torn in his last fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last September.

Martinez had surgery on the knee to repair torn cartilage, but he reportedly didn’t rehab it enough because he was having problems with the knee from the 2nd week of training camp for the Murray fight.

Judges robbing or challengers not doing enough?

murray57By Robert Elmore: The judges told Pernell Whitaker that he did not do enough to earn a victory against the more popular Julio Cesar Chavez in 1993; Mike McCallum against the more popular James Toney in 1992; Lennox Lewis against the more popular Evander Holyfield (the first fight); Austin Trout against more popular Saul Alvarez; Martin Murray against the more Sergio Martinez; Juan Manuel Marquez against the more popular Manny Pacquiao.

With the exception of Marquez, McCallum, and Murray, Trout, Lewis, Whitaker had titles during their bouts. But each of these fighters share a common interest; they all out landed their opponents according to compu box numbers (Except Marquez). But boxing has always said in order to take the title from a champion.

Martinez decisions Murray, but suffers hand injury

martinez52By Gerardo Granados: After winning a controversial local decision over challenger Martin Murray, the future of the WBC middleweight “belt holder” Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez does not look good. Local Argentinean television boxing analysts saw him lose the fight just as many boxing fans who watch the fight and this fight is a solid candidate for the Boxingnews24 Robbery of the Year Award.

After the fight ended it was informed that Maravilla broke his left hand and also that his previously injured knee gave him problems during the fight; and the worst news is that he will not fight for the rest of the year. At 38 years of age it will be hard for him to come back strong after seen him diminished by Kronos already.

Martin Murray only has himself to blame for loss to Sergio Martinez

martinez14By Scott Gilfoid: A day after Martin Murray’s 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Murray’s loyal fan are pitching a fit and crying about how Murray got jobbed by the three judges that gave the fight to Martinez.

Unfortunately, the person that Murray’s fans should be blaming is Murray himself. He was facing a 38-year-old fighter in Martinez, who can no longer fight at a fast pace without breaking down from one type of injury or another. There’s no excuse at all for Murray not fighting at a fast pace to push the tempo to wear Martinez down.

Khan beats Diaz & Martinez decisions Murray in unpopular decisions

martinez66A lot has been said over the years about home decisions and that was yet again the case tonight, one in Sheffield, England and the other in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both of the fights were competitive and top class boxing was on display but surely it’s time that these dodgy decisions have to be cut from the sport before they kill it.

First up in the evening was what was meant to be a routine tune-up fight for Amir “King” Khan against the well respected but perhaps getting on a bit in his career, Julio Diaz. Khan came out and for the first couple of rounds demonstrated his blistering hand-speed and solid footwork but as the fight went on much like the Khan v Garcia fight of last year Diaz found his range and began to tag Khan.

Weights: Sergio Martinez vs. Martin Murray

Sergio Martinez vs Martin MurrayBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) weighed in at 159.4 lbs. today in his weigh-in for his first defense of his World Boxing Council 160 lb. strap against his unbeaten challenger Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s).

Martinez looks incredible shape and he was positively staring holes through Murray’s face when the two fighters stood for their face off. Murray came in at a little heavier at 159.6 lbs. for their fight at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

There was clearly a look of nervousness in the eyes of the 30-year-old Murray. He looked like a trapped deer in the headlights of a big truck heading straight towards him.

Can Murray beat Martinez?

murray11(Photos Courtesy HBO/Will Hart) By Thomas Cowan: This Saturday, British middleweight Martin Murray faces WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Martinez hasn’t fought in Argentina for 11 years and the crowd is expected to exceed 40,000.

The Argentinian president is expected to attend which shows how highly Martinez is regarded in his homeland. Martinez was voted to most popular sportsman in Argentina ahead of soccer star Lionel Messi and anyone who knows anything about soccer will know that’s a big deal.

The nationality of Martinez’s opponent is definitely no coincidence. As soon as it was announced that he’d be fighting in Argentina, I knew he would pick Murray as his opponent.
