martinez52By Gerardo Granados: After winning a controversial local decision over challenger Martin Murray, the future of the WBC middleweight “belt holder” Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez does not look good. Local Argentinean television boxing analysts saw him lose the fight just as many boxing fans who watch the fight and this fight is a solid candidate for the Boxingnews24 Robbery of the Year Award.

After the fight ended it was informed that Maravilla broke his left hand and also that his previously injured knee gave him problems during the fight; and the worst news is that he will not fight for the rest of the year. At 38 years of age it will be hard for him to come back strong after seen him diminished by Kronos already.

The awaited rematch against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. might be over, even Chavez Jr. stated that he saw Murray won the fight and the he was interested to fight him if he previously defeated his next opponent Brian Vera.

Against Martin Murray, Sergio Martinez did not look so marvelous and age might have catch up with him already, he was not as agile, his speed decreased just as his power; he got floored twice but the referee did not count the second knock down. I scored the bout 116 – 111 for the legit winner Martin Murray.

With the WBA – IBO middleweight Champion Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin on the rise and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. planning not to fight him the future looks limited for Sergio. It would be a shame if this was the last fight for Martinez but at his age retirement might be a good option to consider for the former lion king, because once Kronos catches a fighter there is not much left to do and the heart of a lion might not be enough to defeat him.

Did Kronos defeat Maravilla already?
