By Dan Ambrose: If WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KO’s) can get past #11 WBA Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) next month on October 20th, Malignaggi will have to fight a top contender for his next fight in early 2013, unless Ricky Hatton decides he wants to fight Malignaggi and the World Boxing Association bends over backwards to allow Malignaggi to bypass his mandatory challenger which could be either Diego Chaves or Thomas Dulorme.

Malignaggi must get past Cano to keep Hatton rematch hopes alive
By Eric Thomas: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KO’s) is still hoping he can land a rematch against Ricky Hatton at some point in the near future if Hatton suddenly decides to start showing some interested in fighting him. As of now, however, Hatton has a fight date scheduled on November 24th against an opponent still to be determined in Manchester, England. And for his part, the 31-year-old Malignaggi will be making his first defense of his World Boxing Association 147 pound title against #11 WBA welterweight contender Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi hoping to get Hatton after Cano fight
By Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KO’s) is still hoping he can get a shot against 33-year-old Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) if Malignaggi can successfully defend his World Boxing Association title against 22-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) on October 20th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.
Malignaggi to defend WBA title against light welterweight Pablo Cesar Cano on 10/20
By Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KO’s) isn’t even bothering to fight someone from his own weight class in his first defense of his title on October 20th against Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Cano, 22, is a light welterweight, not a welterweight and that’s sadly becoming a trend for champions how to defend their titles against guys from lower weight classes.

Danny Garcia vs. Erik Morales II on 10/20; Quillin and Malignaggi also on the card
By William Mackay: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) won’t be facing Amir Khan next. Instead, the 24-year-old Garcia will be fighting a rematch against the soon to be 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) on October 20th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Also on the card will be WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi against an opponent still to be named, and unbeaten middleweight contender Peter Quillin vs. TBA.
