By Scott Gilfoid: In an interview at East Side Boxing’s On The Ropes, World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan said he’s looking to fight his mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) in March. This is great news for boxing fans, because a lot people have been wondering whether Khan would choose to vacate his title rather than fighting the dangerous Maidana, who may be the hardest hitter in the light welterweight division.

The WBA orders Khan vs. Maidana – News
By Scott Gilfoid: The Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) vacate watch has started, as promoter Frank Warren has corroborated the news that Khan has been ordered by the World Boxing Organization to defend his title next against WBA interim light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s). This probably isn’t the kind of news that Khan was hoping to get, since Maidana is one of the biggest punchers in the light welterweight division with killer strength and true one-punch power.
Forget Khan and Froch, here come the Hattons
By Shaun Campbell: Now that the curtain has been pulled down over a sensational year for boxing in 2009, attention now turns to possible fights within the coming year. In 2009 Britain crowned new world champions, but unfortunately lost one as well. Amir Khan realized his potential by winning the World Boxing Association light-welterweight crown in a 12 round battle with Andreas Kotelnik. David Haye took on a massive task in challenging the biggest heavyweight champion in history.

By Dennis Broadhurst: As the new year has come, the British fans are looking forward to what should be a good year of boxing for us. Haye, Froch and Khan: Will they find success in 2010?
By William Mackay: 2009 was an exciting year for British boxing with David Haye capturing the WBA heavyweight title with a win over 7-foot Nikolay Valuev, WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch defeating American Andre Dirrell in the Super Six tournament, and Amir Khan winning the WBA light welterweight title with a 12 round decision over Andriy Kotelnik. These were all good wins for the British fighters, and it helped bring British boxing back to the forefront. But with this success, we must look forward to 2010 to see if these fighters will be able to continue with their recent success.
Khan has a mandatory defense against Maidana next
By Sean McDaniel: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan has the unfortunate luck to have a mandatory defense coming up next against the hard hitting Marcos Maidana. The thought here is that this is a great fight for Khan to show his talent to American audiences in the U.S. However, the big question is whether Khan will opt to fight Maidana – and risk being knocked flat like Amir was against Breidis Prescott in Khan’s 1st round knockout loss in September 2008, or will Khan choose to defend the title.
