By William Mackay: In his column at the Mirror.co.uk, former boxing great Barry Mcguigan thinks WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) did a fantastic job of stopping Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round last week. Mcguigan thinks that Khan has the hand speed, size and strength to possibly move up to the welterweight and then maybe the junior middleweight division in the future depending on how well Khan does in the immediate future. However, he doesn’t believe that the 23-year-old Khan should go after World Boxing Organization lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis next, saying “Khan has already been accused of fighting smaller men in the early part of his career.”

By William Mackay: Trainer Freddie Roach and Golden Boy Promotion are hoping to make a huge star out of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) in the future along the lines of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is it possible for Khan to accomplish this task in the near or distant future? Pacquiao toiled away for 14 years in the pro ranks before he recently became a huge mega star in the past year after beating Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto in three consecutive fights.

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) has a tentative agreement to face WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) on April 17th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s looking like the 23-year-old Khan will choose to face Maidana rather than vacate his title or try to pay Maidana a step aside fee so that Khan can get another fight in between.

Late in 2009, rumors exist that a potential fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was set to happen on March 13, however due to some contract demands, the fight did not push thru. Instead Manny signed a fight with Joshua Clottey on the same fight date. Clottey, for some was virtually unknown. Many boxing fans did not know that Clottey exhibits one of the best defense and one of the toughest chin.

By Eric Thomas: The World Boxing Association has reportedly confirmed that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan will be fighting WBA interim champion Marcos Maidana for a fight that should be taking place in April, likely on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Roy Jones Jr. bout on the 17th. An agreement has been made between Khan and Maidana’s management teams.

By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) doesn’t decide on vacating his World Boxing Association title rather than taking on WBA interim light welterweight title next, I see Khan getting knocked out cold by the hard hitting Maidana. That’s my prediction. Maidana hits so hard that he might be able to knock Khan out, even if he doesn’t connect cleanly with one of his shots. No one will say that Maidana is the most skilled fighter in the world, but he has brute strength and power that few other fighters in the light welterweight division can come close to.

I have reached a conclusion of sorts and the only thing which will alter my train of thought will depend on which of each Khan and Maidana show up on the night. Maidana the ruthless assassin. Show off, cocky Khan. Two punch pony Maidana. Roach’s Khan. All could deviate the fight from what I think will happen.

By Peter Wells: It’s looking like like World Boxing Association Light Welterweight champion of the world Amir Khan will be forced to fight Marcos Maidana the WBA Interim champion. Khan was happy at first to take on Maidana, but his trainer Freddie Roach is sounding less than enthusiastic about the fight.
If Amir let’s go of his belt then Maidana will take on Victor Cayo for the vacant title. Roach might feel Amir isn’t ready for that step up yet, but what will he do in the mean time.
