By Jim Dower: In this Saturday’s television broadcast on Showtime Championship Boxing, Andre Berto, Shawn Porter, Jermell Charlo and Charles Hatley all weighed in successfully at Friday’s weigh-in for their matches at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Former two-time welterweight world champion Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) weighed in at 146 ½ pounds for his WBC welterweight title eliminator bout against former IBF champ Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs). For his part, Porter weighed in at the welterweight limit at 147 lbs.

Spence is getting ready for his fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) on May 27, and it looks like he’s taking it very serious in training with the 5’11” Jermell, who is a little bit bigger than him.

By Eric Baldwin: WBC World junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13 KOs) will be defending his title for the first time against #2 WBC Charles Hatley (26-1-1, 18 KOs) on Showtime Boxing at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Charlo, 26, recently won the vacant WBA title on May 21 last year in stopping John Jackson in the 8th round.

Charlo hasn’t fought since then, and that obviously isn’t good news for him. He needs to be busier if he wants to take advantage of his time as the WBC champion. Jermell is the brother of the big punching IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.
