Pascal, 28, is 17 years younger than Hopkins and much faster than him. Pascal is in the prime of his career right now with recent wins over Chad Dawson and Adrian Diaconu. For his part, Hopkins peaked as a fighter over 10 years ago and has been coasting downhill slowly, still doing will by picking and choosing his opponents carefully.

However, Hopkins has really picked a tough opponent for him to beat in this fight, because unlike Kelly Pavlik who Hopkins defeated two years ago to impress fans, Pascal has blazing hand speed and excellent boxing skills. He’s not a limited fighter that can be easily picked off and beaten by the simple grabbing and wrestling technique that Hopkins has fallen into in recent years.

De La Hoya, who knows first hand how good Hopkins can be, was stopped by him in the 9th round six years ago. De La Hoya thinks that Hopkins will be able to take advantage of his knowledge and skills to beat the younger 27-year-old Pascal.

By Dan Ambrose: World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KO’s) will be putting his title on the line against 45-year-old number #1 ranked WBO light heavyweight contender Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KO’s) on December 18th at the Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, in Quebec, Canada. Pascal, 27, will have the chance to put Hopkins out of his misery and hand him a crushing defeat. Hopkins will be turning 46 in January 2011, just one month after his fight with Pascal. Given how eroded Hopkins’ skills have looked in his last two fights against Enrique Ornelas and Roy Jones Jr., it’s likely he’s going to be in way over his head against the young, fast and powerful Pascal.

Hopkins, 45, would be in an excellent position to fight the winner of the Super Six tournament fight next year and make huge money in that fight or against fighters like IBF super middleweight champion Jean Pascal or former two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson.

By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Gary Shaw thinks that former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (51—5-1, 32 KO’s) will beat World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KO’s) on December 18th in Quebec, Canada. In an interview by Stephen Edwards at Boxingtalk.com, Shaw says “I think Pascal is making a big mistake by fighting Hopkins. I have all the respect in the world for Hopkins. I think he is going to beat Pascal. I hope I’m wrong, because of our [referring to his fighter Chad Dawson] rematch clause but that’s how I feel.” You have to wonder whether Shaw might still have hurt feelings towards Pascal because of his win over Dawson last month on August 14th.
