James Kirkland vs. Gabriel Rosado added to Hopkins-Kovalev card on November 8th

kirkland334By Dan Ambrose: James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) will be fighting Gabriel Rosado (21-8, 13 KOs) in what will likely be the chief support on the Bernard Hopkins vs. Sergey Kovalev card on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Kirkland, 30, was recently being considered for a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The fact that Canelo didn’t pick Kirkland could have been for a variety of reasons, starting with the danger that he’d bring.

At one point during the press conference, Kovalev indicated that there may be some added incentive on his part to ensure he goes out and takes the title of the Golden Boy fighter and boxing legend Hopkins.

Hopkins, 49, will be looking to break his own record for being the oldest fighter to capture a world title. Hopkins wants the 31-year-old Kovalev’s title, because it would give him 3 of the 4 world title belts at 175.

If Hopkins can win the WBO title, he’ll only be missing the WBC belt from his collection. The WBC title is currently held by Adonis Stevenson, who is being very selective in the fights he takes nowadays.

Stevenson’s adviser Al Haymon is the one that selects his fights, and it’s unclear whether he’ll give him the green light to face Hopkins.

Kovalev: I don’t care what Hopkins says

NEW YORK (Sept. 2, 2014) -Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins and Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev held a press conference in New York City and a media roundtable in Philadelphia Tuesday to officially announce their light heavyweight unification bout on Saturday, Nov. 8 taking place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City live on HBO World Championship Boxing®.

Hopkins: Kovalev is getting a systematic whopping

HopkinsKovalevPhilly_Hoganphotos2(Photo Credit: Hogan Photos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) met today in a press conference in New York to promoter their upcoming November 8th unification fight at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Hopkins did most of the talking, as usual. Kovalev spoke briefly saying very little other than that he would leaving the promotional work to Hopkins because he’s not a big talker.

“After I whop Kovalev systematically, I don’t want to be on nobody’s pound-for-pound list because that will make me a human,” Hopkins said in today’s press conference in New York. “You’re going to see an artist on November 8th. You’re going to witness Louie Armstrong. Watch the ageless one take care of business.”

Will Kovalev mentally crumble against Hopkins?

kovalev11By Chris Williams: IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) has made a career out of getting the better of guys that were supposed to have more talent than him. We saw that in his fights against Joe Calzaghe, Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones Jr, Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal, Kelly Pavlik any many, many more fighters.

I know Hopkins lost to Calzaghe and Taylor, but a lot of boxing fans feel that Hopkins was robbed in those fights and deserved a decision. The same goes for his first fight against Pascal.
Hopkins will be looking to prove himself once again when he faces WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

The 49-year-old Hopkins is going to be looking to out-smart the 31-year-old Kovalev and put him in his place. Kovalev is much younger, but he doesn’t have the experience, boxing skills, or the knowledge that Hopkins has going for him.

Richardson says Hopkins would be world’s biggest star if was in another sport

kovalev888By Raj Parmar: As Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KO’s) keeps defying all logic at 49 years young by continuing to rack up wins and championships, his trainer Naazim Richardson has spoken out regarding the fact that Hopkins does not get enough credit for his accomplishments. Richardson feels that if Bernard was achieving similar high level results in another sport at his current age, then Bernard would be the world’s biggest sports star.

“If this was any other sport, like a 50-year old pitcher, he would have been the biggest star in the world,” Naazim Richardson stated to thaboxingvoice.com, “But they are treating out sport different. They don’t acknowledge it.”

Hopkins vs. Kovalev tickets go on sale on September 5th at noon

kovalev111By Allan Fox: Tickets for the November 8th unification fight between IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) and WBO 175 pound champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) will be going on sale on September 5th at noon ET for their fight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Ticket prices are as follows: $300, 200, 150, 100, 50 (plus fees). They can be purchased by Ticketmaster and at Boardwalk Hall box office.

This is a great showdown and perhaps the best one in the light heavyweight division right now. Adonis Stevenson vs. Kovalev or Stevenson vs. Hopkins would be exciting fights too, but Stevenson might be a little too fast and powerful for Hopkins to deal with at this point in the 49-year-old Hopkins’ career.

Hopkins will use Kovalev’s aggression against him, says Rosado

hopkinsBy Dan Ambrose: Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado is picking IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) to defeat WBO 175 pound champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) n their fight on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Rosado sees it as being a competitive fight, but he feels that the 49-year-old Hopkins will take advantage of the large steps that Kovalev takes when he’s loading up on his punches with long right hands. Rosado thinks Hopkins will step back and nail Kovalev with shots.

Kovalev happy to be facing Hopkins on November 8th in Atlantic City, NJ

kovalev442By Allan Fox: WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) is pleased that he’s got a chance to make a big name for himself in facing IBF/WBA 175lb champ Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) on 11/8 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This is the opportunity for the 31-year-old Kovalev to win over a lot of new fans by beating the wily old Hopkins and taking his two titles at the same time. Their fight will be televised by HBO in front of what should be a large nationwide audience.
