Dawson: I want to make Hopkins look stupid and old

Image: Dawson: I want to make Hopkins look stupid and oldBy Dan Ambrose: The last time Bernard Hopkins fought Chad Dawson, Hopkins went down early in the fight with an injured left shoulder that ended the fight for him. He was able to hold onto his WBC light heavyweight title when his appeal both to the California State Athletic Commission and World Boxing Council approved, resulting in Hopkins’ 2nd round TKO loss changed to a 2nd round no contest.

Hopkins will pass the torch to Dawson on Saturday

Image: Hopkins will pass the torch to Dawson on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: On Saturday night, 47-year-old Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) will likely be passing his WBC light heavyweight title to challenger Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) in their HBO televised fight. On top of giving up his World Boxing Council title, Hopkins will effectively be crowning the 29-year-old Dawson as the best fighter in the light heavyweight division with his victory.

Hopkins has to follow Pascal blueprint to beat Dawson

Image: Hopkins has to follow Pascal blueprint to beat DawsonBy Allan Fox: If WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) wants to walk out of the Boardwalk Hall arena still the in possession of his World Boxing Council title on April 28th, he’s going to have to follow Jean Pascal’s blueprint in how to beat the younger 29-year-old Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s).

Is Hopkins kissing his WBC title goodbye against Dawson on April 28th?

Image: Is Hopkins kissing his WBC title goodbye against Dawson on April 28th?By Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins has finally started to show his age after all these years. At 47, Hopkins is one of the oldest world champions of all time and that’s a testament to how good he is, but also how poor the light heavyweight is at this time. For him to beat WBC champion Jean Pascal with ease last year gives you a good indication about how weak the division is right now.

Hopkins must find an answer for Dawson’s superior skills

By Dan Ambrose: I’d say that WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) is really up against it in his rematch with Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) on April 28th. This is not a good fight for the 47-year-old Hopkins. I don’t think he’s shot, but Hopkins has clearly slipped a notch since his win over former World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal last year.

Hopkins can’t get beaten too badly by Dawson if he wants to get the Cleverly fight

Image: Hopkins can't get beaten too badly by Dawson if he wants to get the Cleverly fightBy Dan Ambrose: It’s pretty much academic at this point that 47-year-old Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) will be losing to Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) in their rematch on April 28th at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, U.S. That’s pretty much a given. Hopkins is way too old, way too slow and way too fragile to come out on top in this fight. The thing is Hopkins has a nice paying bout looming ahead against the WBO light heavyweight paper champion Nathan Cleverly in Wales this summer if Cleverly doesn’t get stripped of his title for failing to fight his mandatory challenger.

Hopkins needs to find another gear to beat Dawson

Image: Hopkins needs to find another gear to beat DawsonBy Dan Ambrose: 47-year-old Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) is finally starting to show signs of aging after he was made to look average in the two rounds of his last fight against Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s). Hopkins will get a chance to prove that fight was just a blip on the radar screen when he faces the 29-year-old Dawson next month on April 28th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
