Dominic Wade not intimidated by Gennady Golovkin

1-golovkin-wade (14)By Tim Fletcher: Unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) isn’t afraid of IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs), because he sees him as just another fighter with flaws like any other person. Wade, 25, will be looking to take advantage of the flaws in the 33-year-old Golovkin’s game when the two of them meet each other on April 23 on HBO, at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade never wavered at accepting the fight against Golovkin when it was offered to him by his manager Al Haymon. Wade believes he can beat Golovkin and pull off a huge upset on April 23.

Dominic Wade: I ain’t scared of Golovkin

1-golovkin-wade (11)By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #3 IBF challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) showed up on Thursday for his press conference in New York City with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and he made it clear that he’s not afraid of the Kazakhstan fighter despite being much younger than him. The 25-year-old Wade will be challenging Golovkin on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade is a huge underdog in this fight, and one reason for that is he is fighting what many fans see as the best fighter in the 160lb division. Wade has not established himself as one of the top fighters in the middleweight division.

Golovkin-Wade: 6000 tickets sold first day for 4/23 fight

golovkin8133(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Allan Fox: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions says that over 6,000 tickets were sold on the first day that they went on sale for the April 23 fight between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) for their fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Loeffler, the promoter for Golovkin, expects the fight to be a sellout. The Forum has a seating capacity of 17,505. That would be a real show of Golovkin’s ability to sell tickets if the fight turns out to be a sellout.

Golovkin: I chose Dominic Wade because he’s my IBF mandatory

golovkin2By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) has a simple reason why he’s fighting unbeaten and totally untested #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 rather than fighting someone better known. Golovkin points out that Wade is unbeaten and is his #1 IBF mandatory challenger. That appears to be the only reason why he was selected.

Those are reasons enough to fight the 25-year-old American. If Golovkin were to steer around the Wade fight, he would need a very good reason to present to the International Boxing Federation.

Golovkin’s promoter: We chose Wade because other champions wouldn’t take fight

Image: Golovkin’s promoter: We chose Wade because other champions wouldn’t take fightBy Jeff Aranow: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will be making a less than exciting title defense on April 23 against his IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says the reason they selected Wade was because they couldn’t get any of the world champions at 1160 to take the fight with Golovkin. Wade, 25, was the fall back plan after they struck out in getting the other belt holders at middleweight to face GGG.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade a done deal for 4/23 on HBO

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is set to go to defend his IBF title against mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

Granted, it’s not a great fight or even a good fight. It’s arguably a big step down from Golovkin’s last opponent David Lemieux and even a step down from his fight against Willie Monroe Jr. Golovkin has no choice in the matter though, because the International Boxing Federation came up with their oddball ratings of putting the 25-year-old Wade at No.3, and he got the position after #1 IBF Tureano Johnson suffered a shoulder injury training and couldn’t take the fight with Golovkin.

Golovkin: I need to get back in the ring for my fans

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he needs to get back in action for his fans. GGG is scheduled to fight #3 IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) in two months from now on April 23 at the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

The fight against the 25-year-old serves two purposes. First of all, it’s a mandatory defense of Golovkin’s IBF belt that he needs to take care of if he wants to continue to be the International Boxing Federation 160lb champion.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade agreed to for April 23

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight against #3 IBF, #7 WBC, #8 WBA, #15 WBO Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) has been agreed to and also approved by HBO for April 23, according to Dan Rafael. The Golovkin-Wade fight will likely be staged at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

It’s obviously not a fight that Golovkin and his promoters at K2 wanted. They were hoping to get a bigger fight against the likes of Chris Eubank Jr. or Billy Joe Saunders. However, the International Boxing Federation took their ability to choose away when they ordered Golovkin to face Wade, the replacement mandatory challenger.
