Golovkin’s trainer hopes Cotto-Canelo winner honors WBC ruling

golovkin7744By Jim Dower: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez is hoping that the winner of the proposed fight between WBC 160lb champion Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will follow the ruling by the WBC that the winner of the fight must fight Golovkin, who is the WBC interim middleweight champion.

If they decide not to face Golovkin, then the World Boxing Council will likely strip the Cotto-Canelo winner of their WBC title, and this would mean that Golovkin would fight for the vacant WBC title against likely David Lemieux. It would still be a good fight, but not nearly as interesting as Golovkin fighting Canelo or Cotto.

Martin Murray needs a steel chin to survive against Golovkin

golovkin456(Photo credit: Abel Sanchez) By Scott Gilfoid: Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) is ranked high by the WBA and WBC boxing organizations, but he’s going to need more than an inflated ranking in order to survive the full 12 rounds against WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) on February 21st at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Since Murray, #1 WBC, #5 WBA, doesn’t have much power to speak of, it means that he’s going to be forced to go the full 12 rounds if he wants to beat Golovkin. The only way Murray can beat Golovkin is by out-boxing him over the course of the fight and win by a 12 round decision.

Martin Murray will need the perfect fight to beat Golovkin

murray88By Scott Gilfoid: After hanging around for seven years as a pro and failing twice in two previous world title shots, Britain’s Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) will be getting a third title shot two months from now against what many boxing fans see as the best fighter in the 160 pound division in WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) on February 21st at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Some fans would say that the 32-year-old Murray doesn’t deserve another world title shot. After all, he was beaten just last year by former WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, and since then Murray has three wins over pedestrian opposition in Ishmael Tetteh, Max Bursak and Domenico Spada.

Photos: Golovkin Press Conference In Kazakhstan

1-IMG_5986Gennady Golovkin held a Press Conference on Saturday, November 22nd in Astana, Kazakhstan as part of an International Press Tour leading up to his World Middleweight Championship against MARTIN MURRAY slated for Saturday, February 21st in Monte Carlo.

Golovkin was joined on the dais by his manager OLEG HERMANN, as a very large turnout of media from Kazakhstan were in attendance.

Discussing his upcoming fight with Murray, Golovkin stated, “Martin is a worthy opponent and is the number one middleweight in Europe as of today. I think it will be a fierce fight. He proved to be a very strong boxer during his last fight with Spada.”

Golovkin vs. Murray: Should Gennady move up once he beats Martin?

golovkin8by Oliver Norager – IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) faces the durable, but limited Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) on the 21 of February in Monte Carlo. This is actually a decent fight for the hard punching Golovkin. Murray is a decent operator with a tight defense, so getting Murray out of his misery early will prove something to the public, because neither Felix Sturm or Sergio Martinez were able to get him out of there, but they don’t have the power that Golovkin has.

Once Murray starts feeling Golovkin punches he will get into survival mode, so expect a blowout in the middle rounds once Murray feels that he can’t compete with the likes of Golovkin.

Golovkin: Martin Murray is the best middleweight fighter from Europe

golovkin5By Scott Gilfoid: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) will be back in action in the next four months against former two time world title challenger Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) on February 21st in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Murray, #1 WBC, has the rankings to make this a potentially good fight, but it’s unclear if he has the power, hand speed and talent to make this a competitive fight. Golovkin seems to think he does, as he rates Murray as the best of the European middleweights right now.

Golovkin vs Murray, who wins?

golovkin994Tom Berridge: Gennady Golovkin will be defending his WBA middleweight title against the solid and consistent Martin Murray, I think the majority of average boxing fans feel this is a forgone conclusion before they even step into the ring in favour of GGG, but for anybody that knows Martin Murray and saw his boxing skills will think differently.

Now I am not saying that Murray is definitely going to win, but what I’m trying to say is, if he gets his tactics right and is in tip-top shape then he can potentially cause a massive upset, look at the caliber of opponents both guys have been in with and you’ve got to say, Murray has had harder top-level fights, he beat Sergio Martinez in my opinion, knocking him down on 3 separate occasions without response during the fight, shambolic decision in Argentina, might as well have been in his Kitchen with his family scoring the fight, he also fought a draw with Felix Sturm which many people thought he won.

Golovkin: Martin Murray is the best available opponent for me

murray6666By Scott Gilfoid: With WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) unable to get WBC 160 pound champion Miguel Cotto or former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to step inside the ring to face him, Golovkin will need to be satisfied with facing #1 WBC Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) on February 21st in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Golovkin sees Murray as a good stay busy fight to keep him from getting rust while he waits for the Cotto-Canelo fight to take place. Once that fight is over with, Golovkin hopes that he can fight the winner. More likely he’ll be ignored by the Canelo-Cotto winner, especially if it’s Cotto, because his promoter Bob Arum is already talking about wanting to match Cotto against Tim Bradley in his next fight.
