Golovkin vs Murray, who wins?

golovkin994Tom Berridge: Gennady Golovkin will be defending his WBA middleweight title against the solid and consistent Martin Murray, I think the majority of average boxing fans feel this is a forgone conclusion before they even step into the ring in favour of GGG, but for anybody that knows Martin Murray and saw his boxing skills will think differently.

Now I am not saying that Murray is definitely going to win, but what I’m trying to say is, if he gets his tactics right and is in tip-top shape then he can potentially cause a massive upset, look at the caliber of opponents both guys have been in with and you’ve got to say, Murray has had harder top-level fights, he beat Sergio Martinez in my opinion, knocking him down on 3 separate occasions without response during the fight, shambolic decision in Argentina, might as well have been in his Kitchen with his family scoring the fight, he also fought a draw with Felix Sturm which many people thought he won.

GGG’s toughest fights have been a shot Daniel Geale that Darren Barker beat 2 years earlier and Matthew Macklin who is a top end journeyman. My point being both GGG and Murray are basically unbeaten fighters with Murray having fought the tougher opponents.

Martin Murray is a tough, durable opponent with a great chin and solid power and GGG can be backed up, but he has great power clearly, but basically untested, sugar coat that last statement as much as you can, but the fact is he has not fought anybody like Martin Murray, so the point being, if he beats Martin Murray, then he has proven to be capable of beating a top, top contender and must be taken seriously.

Although I believe the fight to be 50 / 50, for the average fan it does not seem that way, but do not be surprised if Murray wins the fight and there is yet another British world champion, you heard it here first.
