By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is thinking of matching Golovkin against WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) later this year if talks with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions fails to produce a fight, according to the LA Times. Ramirez has been very open about his interest in getting in the ring with Golovkin. Ramirez took a shot at Canelo by saying he’d fight Golovkin like a real Mexican.

“If Gennady Golovkin wants to fight a real Mexican, here I am raising his hand to face, for the honor of Mexico,” Ramirez said to espndesportes.

Gilberto Ramirez: If Golovkin wants to fight a real Mexican, I am here!

ramirez95By Dan Ambrose: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) didn’t seem to admire the way fellow Mexican countryman Saul “Canelo” Alvarez gave up his WBC middleweight title without a fight last Wednesday in vacating the title rather than face his mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in the ring to defend the title.

The 24-year-old Ramirez said that he would like to now face the hard hitting Golovkin if he wants to fight a real Mexican.

Golovkin: Gilberto Ramirez is not a big name

1-golovkin (1)By Chris Williams: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin made challenger Dominic Wade his 22nd consecutive knockout victim last Saturday night in stopping him in the 2nd round at the Forum in Inglewood, California. The 34-year-old Golovkin now is fed up with taking the little known fighters.

Golovkin now wants the popular golden goose of the middleweight division in Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the flagship fighter for Golden Boy Promotions. However, Golovkin probably won’t get the Canelo fight next due to his promoters likely steering him towards a rematch with Miguel Cotto. One fight that Golovkin could take is against WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez.

ramirez94By Piotr Slabonski: Undefeated #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) fulfilled the expectations placed in him and won by a 12 round unanimous decision against hard hitting WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs), becoming the first Mexican champion in the history of super middleweight last Saturday night at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now “Zurdo” counting on even greater challenges.

– I showed him the Mexican school of boxing. He is very, very strong puncher, but he could not deal with me moving around the ring. After second part of the fight I already knew I would win. I wanted to do something historic, and I did it – said the new WBO champion after the triumph at the gala Manny Pacquiao – Tim Bradley III in Las Vegas.
