Groves: Froch is trying to hide away

froch45342By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) has been noticing that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) hasn’t been making many media appearances to help promote their upcoming rematch on May 31st at Wembley Stadium, and he feels that Froch is basically hiding.

Groves doesn’t say why the 36-year-old Froch isn’t out and about trying to drum up interest in their rematch, but one can guess it might be due to the way Groves appeared to get the better of Froch in their media appearances together before their last fight in November.

Froch-Groves 2: Extra tickets going on sale for 5/31 fight at Wembley Stadium

froch75By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn will have an additional 20,000 tickets on sale for the May 31st rematch between IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) and George Groves (19-1, 5 KO’s) at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK. 60,000 tickets have already been sold for the fight, but the stadium fits 80,000 at max capacity. As such, the other 20,000 tickets will so go on sale in order to fill of the remainder of the stadium.

Hearn wants to maximize revenue for the fighters, and the only way of doing that is to sell every ticket and hope that there are enough fans out there to greedily scoop them up.

It’s weird how fate stepped in and gave Froch and Groves a second chance at a payday.

Froch: Groves will fall apart again

froch-67By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) thinks that George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) fell apart in the 8th and 9th rounds the last time they faced each other last November in Manchester. This Froch expects Groves to crumble even earlier in their rematch on May 31st at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Froch says he wasn’t at his best last November when he fought Groves, and that he had been told by everyone that it would be a mismatch. This time he’s taking the fight very seriously.

“Everybody told me it was a mismatch and regardless of whether George thought the right was stopped early, I still won,” Froch said . “George fell apart in two rounds. I came back at him on what was my worst possible night. He will fall apart again, I am telling you now, but this time I won’t make the mistakes I made before.”

Groves: Froch can’t take repeated shots from me

groves54By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) acknowledges that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) can take a pretty good shot every now and then. However, Groves doesn’t think Froch is going to be able to stand up to the repeated right hands that he’s going to be shoving down his gullet. Groves thinks that Froch will initially be able to take his shots, but eventually he’s going to succumb to his power and hit the canvas for the 10 count in their rematch on May 31st at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

“He’s brave in that he takes a lot of shots but he’s not a warrior,” Groves told the London Evening Standard. “He’s never had much of a technique to fall back on and he’s slowed. He can take a shot but not repeatedly from me. I wish him luck but he’s not showing me anything. I’m a faster fighter, I have faster hands and a better defence. It’s only going to end one way.”

Groves: Froch needs to see a psychiatrist, not a sports psychologist

groves8By Scott Gilfoid: Challenger George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) says that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) is seeing a sports psychologist in getting ready for their May 31st rematch at the Wembley Arena. Groves thinks that Froch is wasting his time with the Psychologist, as he sees him in need of a psychiatrist due to his reluctance to come in contact with him during their press conferences to help build up their rematch.

Groves isn’t too pleased that Froch isn’t interacting with him as much in the buildup for this fight compared to in their previous bout last November.

Dyer hoping Groves beats Froch in rematch

groves65677By Scott Gilfoid: Danny Dyer from EastEnders is hoping that George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) beats IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) in their second fight on May 31st at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Dyer thinks that a victory for the 26-year-old Groves would set up a huge rubber match between the two fighters later on in the year, and he’s hoping that this can take place.

Froch was given a 9th round stoppage over Groves last November when the referee working the fight Howard John Foster jumped on Groves during the heat of the action and inexplicably stopped the fight to give Froch a win. It was one of the strangest things I’ve seen in British boxing. The controversial stoppage actually helped both Froch and Groves, because it gave them an excuse to fight each other a second time and get another big payday.

Groves: Froch has gone into his shell; he can’t even look at me

froch85By Scott Gilfoid: Challenger George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) is amused that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) has gotten to the point where he’s unwilling or unable to make eye contact when the two of them get together for press conferences and other activities where they’re contractually expected to be with each other to help hype their May 31st rematch on pay per view from the Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Groves believes that Froch is totally psyched out from the bad experience he had with Groves during the build-up for their fight last November, and he also thinks that the grueling fight that it turned out to be also has gotten into his head.

Will Froch’s luck finally run out?

froch1234By Smith Dan: As a relatively avid boxing fan from Britain, there is very little I enjoy more than seeing a fellow Brit in possession of a World title. My first real boxing hero was Joe Calzaghe, a blisteringly quick, charismatic character with an exciting style that always brought me to the edge of my seat. Watching Joe deliver flurry upon flurry of punches (I disagree with the criticism that they were ‘slaps’, but you’re entitled to your opinion) was exhilarating, and served as the proverbial fishing rod that hooked me in.

Calzaghe helps to lead me to the man who is the topic of this article; as he almost built his publicity off of the back of claiming Joe had ‘ducked’ a fight with him. WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch, before his controversial fight with George Groves and his arrogance that followed, was one of the most popular British boxers around, and with the WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles around his waist, it was very tough to be a critic.

Groves may need to drum up interest in the Froch fight single-handedly

groves676By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) feels that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) might not be up to the job to try and stay in there with him for a little back and forth banter during their press conferences and face to face meetings to drum up interest in their May 31st rematch at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Groves thinks that the shove Froch gave him during their first photo shoot at Wembley and the fact that Froch wouldn’t stare him down properly during that meeting, it was a sign that Froch might not be interested in going the extra yard to get people interested in the fight like last time. As such, Groves thinks he might need to depend on promoter Eddie Hearn to help him get people interested in the fight.
