By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) is set to beat WBA Super World featherweight champion Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) in their rematch on January 28 next year, and then move forward to beat IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby in a unification match thereafter. If Santa Cruz can’t get the fight against Selby, then he’ll go after WBC champion Gary Russell Jr. in a unification match.

Santa Cruz, 28, lost his World Boxing Association title to Frampton by a controversial 12 round majority decision last July at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Santa Cruz appeared to win two of the first six rounds and all of the final six rounds of the contest.

By Scott Gilfoid: Leo Santa Cruz is still upset about his crushing defeat at the hands of Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) on July 30 last month, and he’s having hard time with dealing with the setback for his career. Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) lost the fight by a 12 round majority decision by the scores 116-112 117-111, and 114-114. However, many boxing fans felt that Santa Cruz enough to retain his WBA Super World featherweight title.

They felt that at the very least, Santa Cruz should have been given a draw out of the fight, but certainly not a loss on his record. Frampton had the fans firmly on his side on the night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Frampton wants Santa Cruz rematch

Image: Frampton wants Santa Cruz rematch

By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton seems to be coming to his senses that the best thing he can do is give an immediate rematch with former World Boxing Association featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) so that he can clear up the controversy that has spilled over from his highly questionable win over the talented Mexican American on July 30.

Frampton won the fight by a 12 round majority decision by the scores of 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112. However, the decision by the judges seems to run counter to the views of many boxing fans who saw the same fight, as many of them felt that Frampton didn’t do enough to deserve the win, and he certainly didn’t do enough to win the contest by the scores 117-111 and 116-112.

By Dan Ambrose: WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton and his manager Barry McGuigan appear to be interested in facing the likes of IBF champion Lee Selby or WBC champion Gary Russell Jr. in a unification fight. Whether they’ll be able to take either of those fights will be learned soon. Frampton may need to fight an immediate rematch with Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs), because he reportedly had a rematch clause in his contract with Frampton for their fight last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Frampton beat Santa Cruz by a 12 round majority decision to win his WBA title. I saw the Santa Cruz vs. Frampton fight twice now, and I gave Santa Cruz the win both times. I thought he did more than enough to earn the decision. I don’t know what fight the judges were watching, but it wasn’t the same one I saw. I had the champion Santa Cruz holding onto his belt.

Santa Cruz: I’ll fight Carl Frampton in Belfast

frampton40By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KO’s) is interested in traveling to Belfast to defend his title against his No.1 WBC mandatory challenger Carl Frampton over there in his home city this July for the right money. Santa Cruz, 25, doesn’t see the 5’6” Frampton as a threat to him, so he’s willing to go over there and knock him out in front of his own Irish fans in July.

In other words, Santa Cruz isn’t worried about being robbed by the judges, as he intends on leaving them with nothing to do but to watch the spectacle.

Frampton’s manager hoping to lure Santa Cruz to Belfast

frampton40By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton beat 36-year-old Hugo Cazares last night in 2nd round TKO in Belfast to earn a title shot against WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz. But not only does Frampton and his team want the Santa Cruz fight, they also want hometown advantage by having him travel all the way to Belfast, Northern Ireland and fight in front of a hostile crowd despite the fact that Santa Cruz is the champion and Frampton a mere challenger. What they want to do is offer Santa Cruz a lot of money from the expected large gate, and then hope he caves in and accepts the offer.

“We are going to make an outstanding proposal to Santa Cruz financially and hopefully he will come over to Belfast,” said Barry McGuigan, Frampton’s manager via ESPN.co.uk. “The sooner we can get it on the better. He has got the morals and I believe he genuinely wants to fight Carl. It is all about sitting and hammering out the deal.”

Carl Frampton: I think I can beat Leo Santa Cruz

555(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (17-0, 12 KO’s) has sized up WBC 122 lb. champ Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KO’s) after watching some of his fights and he feels he’s got the style to beat the 25-year-old Santa Cruz.

To Frampton, he sees Santa Cruz as little more than a shorter version of Antonio Margarito, a fighter known for having slow hands and a tendency to throw a lot of looping shots. Frampton thinks he’s better than Santa Cruz, and he’s really hoping he can fight him in 2014.
