By Eric Baldwin: The big punching Lucas Matthysse will be fighting at welterweight against 140lb fighter Emmanuel Taylor on the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card on May 6 on HBO PPV at the T-Mobile Arena I Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s unknown if the Matthysse-Taylor fight will the co-main event on the Canelo-Chavez Jr. card. If so, it’ll be kind of a disappointment to some boxing fans, because the 26-year-old Taylor has lost many of his recent fights.

He’s lost 3 out of his last 6 fights since 2014. Taylor was beaten by Chris Algieri, Adrien Broner and Antonio Orozco. The fights were competitive and close, but Taylor still lost. Given that the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. card is on HBO PPV, you’d like to see more meaningful fights.

Benavidez stops Paez Jr; Orozco defeats Taylor

By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off his very controversial 12 round decision win over Mauricio Herrera last December, the Top Rank promoted interim WBA light welterweight champion Jose Benavidez Jr. (23-0, 16 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a relatively easy 12th round knockout win over the smaller 5’7” Jorge Piaz Jr. (38-6-2, 23 KOs) on Friday night at the US Airway Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Broner-Taylor did 852,000 viewers on Showtime

broner444By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday’s fight between Adrien Broner (29-1, 22 KOs) and Emmanuel Taylor (18-3, 12 KOs) brought in a peak of 852,000 viewers with an average of 711,000 on Showtime, according to Steve Kim.

Those are respectable numbers obviously, and it shows you that the 25-year-old Broner remains a huge draw for Showtime. Those aren’t the type of numbers that suggest that Broner will be able to take the baton from superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr when he retires from the sport one of these days, but Broner at least will be fairly popular.

SHOSPORTS-Broner Wins-0632(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp / SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (29-1, 22 KOs) had to battle hard to defeat Emmanuel Taylor (18-3, 12 KOs) by a harder than expected 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Broner sealed the victory with a 12th round knockdown. Broner landed a hard left hook that put Taylor down. The final judges’ scores were 115-112, 116-111, and 116-111.

The fight was very close with many rounds hard to pick a winner in. Broner clearly won the fight, but he should have beaten Taylor in a more impressive fashion given that this was a fringe contender that he was facing rather than a top contender like Matthysse or Viktor Postol.

Dirrell is well familiar with Broner from when he was a kid, and he knows the kind of talent he has especially when he’s dialed in like he is now.

Weights: Broner 140, Taylor 138.5

BronerTaylorWeighIn_Hoganphotos1(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Jim Dower: Former three division title holder Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) made weight on Friday for his fight against Emmanuel Taylor (18-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Broner, 25, weighed in right at the light welterweight limit at 140 pounds. His opponent Taylor weighed in slightly less at 139.5 pounds.

It’s an important fight for Broner because there’s a chance that he could be taking on Lucas Matthysse (35-3, 33 KOs) or another big name. Broner’s adviser Al Haymon needs to put Broner in with quality fighter before he gets him a title shot. Broner wants to face the better fighters at 140, but Haymon decided to put him in with the fringe contender Taylor instead.

Broner puts arms around Emmanuel Taylor’s throat during face off

YouTube video
By Dan Ambrose: It got ugly today in the final press conference with former three division world champion Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) grabbing his opponent Emmauel Taylor (18-2, 12 KOs) around the throat in what looked like a chocking attempt by Broner.

Taylor, who was picked out by Broner’s adviser to be the B-side, was none too happy to be grabbed around the throat by Broner and embarrassed. Broner and Taylor will be fighting this Saturday night in a 12 round bout at light welterweight at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Broner: My fight against Taylor won’t go to decision

SHOWTIME-PUBLIC WORKOUT-Adrien Broner-1106(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp / SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: Adrien “The Problem” Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) will be looking to add another scalp to his resume this Saturday night against former Chris Algieri victim Emmanuel Taylor (18-2, 12 KOs) in a fight televised by Showtime from the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

After three straight un-Broner-like performances, Broner is ready to show his old talent by scoring a knockout against the 23-year-old Taylor in front of his loyal fans in Cincinnati.

Broner needs an impressive knockout right now to show boxing fans he’s for real, and to win back a lot of the fans that jumped ship after he got beat by Argentinian Marcos Maidana eight months ago in December.

Broner says he could be fighting Emmanuel Taylor on September 6th

broner660By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) says he’s not sure who he’ll be fighting for his next fight on September 6th, but he said to Dan Rafael of ESPN that he’s hearing that it might be Emmanuel Taylor (18-2, 12 KOs). It won’t be former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora, apparently. He’s been ruled out for some reason.

Taylor, 23, beat Karim Mayfield recently on ESPN. But in his fight before that, Taylor was easily beaten by Chris Algieri by a 10 round decision last February.
