By Jim Dower: Former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (32-3-1, 25 KOs) will be fighting tonight in a WBC 175lb title eliminator against Eleider Alvarez (21-0, 10 KOs) on PPV from the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. This is a big fight for both of these Canadian based fighters. It’s not that either of them will have much chance of beating World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Adonis “Super Man” Stevenson.

It’s more of the one of them getting a good payday in fighting Stevenson. Stevenson will be a clear favorite over the Bute vs. Alvarez winner. There’s no question about that.

By Jim Dower: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Eleider Alvarez (21-0, 10 KOs) will be in action this Friday night on February 24 to face former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (32-3-1, 25 KOs) in a World Boxing Council 175 lb. title eliminator bout at the Videoron Centre in Quebec, Canada. By Allan Fox: Unbeaten Eleider Alvarez (20-0, 10 KOs) and former IBF 168lb champ Lucian Bute (32-1, 25 KOs) will fight each other on February 24 at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City in Canada. The winner of the Bute-Alvarez fight will be getting a shot at WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson on April 29.

That might not be a good thing if the soon to be 37-year-old Bute wins, because he might not be much competition for a puncher like Stevenson. Bute will have been out of the ring for 10 months by the time he faces the 32-year-old Alvarez on Feb.24. That’s not good news for Bute, because he’s not the young fighter that he was when he held the International Boxing Federation super middleweight title from 2007 to 2012.
