Hearn thinks Joshua vs. Fury is possible for November

hearn736By Scott Gilfoid: Despite the out of shape IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) saying he’ll absolutely be retiring after his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko on July 9, he’s expected to continue his career and face IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in November or in 2017, according to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

Hearn spoke with Fury’s trainer Peter Fury and he was given assurances that Fury will be taking the fight with Joshua. This leads you to question why Fury has been flapping his gums so furiously about him not liking boxing anymore and wanting to retire from the sport. Is Fury just doing this to drive up interest in his July 9 rematch against Klitschko, or is he doing this to take the pressure off from himself to make it seem to the boxing public that he’s lost interest in boxing?

Showtime signs Anthony Joshua to multi-fight deal

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Well, as I already predicted in my article yesterday, Showtime Sports has signed British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) to a multi-fight deal with their network. Showtime head honcho Stephen Espinoza made the announcement on Wednesday at the luxurious Hilton Syon Park in London.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was present during the announcement, of course. The first fight of the multi-fight deal with Showtime for Joshua will be televised next month with Joshua defending his IBF heavyweight title against American Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The fight piped into the U.S in the afternoon on Showtime on that date, which probably means that the ratings won’t be as high as they would be if the fight were to be televised at night when there are fewer sports events taking place.

Anthony Joshua won’t be getting Tyson Fury fight

fury#1By Scott Gilfoid: With IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) saying this week that he’ll be ending his boxing career after his next fight against Wladimir Klitschko on July 9, it looks like IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn won’t be getting the unification fight against Fury.

Hearn has been talking about wanting to match Joshua against Fury in November in what would be a big fight fit for a stadium. However, Fury says he’ll be hanging up his gloves after the rematch with Klitschko in two months from now at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

David Price wants Joshua fight later in 2016

price6666By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (19-3, 16 KOs) feels his previous top 10 ranking with the International Boxing Federation should be reinstated after his last opponent Erkan Teper tested positive for a banned substance. Price, 33, was knocked out in two rounds by the hard-hitting Teper last July in a failed bid to win the EBU heavyweight title, and Price hasn’t fought since then.

At the time, Price was ranked #5 by the IBF. Price wants his old ranking back so that he can be in the running for a title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in late 2016. It’s hard to imagine Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn opting to match him against Price given the way he was blasted out by Teper.

Breazeale: I’m going to ruin Joshua’s perfect record

Image: Breazeale: I’m going to ruin Joshua’s perfect recordBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #13 WBC Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) sees himself unseating undefeated IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) in two months from now in their fight on June 25 on Sky Box Office PPV from the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Breazeale was selected by Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn likely due to his unbeaten record, him being an American, and because of his 2012 Olympic status from the U.S. Breazeale fought briefly in the Olympics but was eliminated right away in his first fight against a Russian opponent Magomed Omarov.

Tyson Fury trashes Joshua over his selection of Breazeale for title defense

fury49By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyron Fury let IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) have it today for him and his promoter Eddie Hearn selecting an easy mark for Joshua’s first title defense against fringe contender Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Fury sees the 6’7” Breazeale as little more than a bum, and he’s not impressed with the choice. Fury did not go into detail about what specifically he does not like about the 30-year-old American Breazeale, but it’s likely that Fury saw how bad Breazeale looked in his fights against Fred Kassi and Amir Mansour recently.

Joshua’s next potential opponent: Stiverne, Jennings or Breazeale

1-JOSHUATRAINING18By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s first defense of his new IBF crown will be on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The opponent for Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) hasn’t been picked out yet, but his promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s got three American heavyweights – Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs), Bryant Jennings (19-2, 10 KOs), Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) and Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) that are serious options for the 26-year-old Joshua.

Hearn had been planning on staging Joshua’s next fight on July 9, the same date as IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s rematch against Wladimir Klitschko, but Hearn is no longer talking about wanting to do that.
