Could Minto or Cornish spoil the party?

cornish6By Gav Duthie: I have to give credit to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Promotions for creating an interesting show on Sept 12 involving Anthony Joshua 13-0 (13) and Dillian Whyte 15-0 (12) at the O2 arena in London. Joshua and Whyte are heavy favorites to win in separate bouts but are on a collision course to fight each other. Despite this there is an outside chance that Gary Cornish or Brian Minto could win their fights and spoil the party.

It is a risk from Matchroom to put Joshua in with a hungry contender and Whyte with a seasoned veteran but I feel it is the right decision. There must have been a temptation to go easy. In the press conference Whyte was at it with Joshua and their future fight is building itself. It didn’t really matter who they fought tomorrow but if either loses the Joshua-Whyte fight is over, can this actually happen?

Joshua focusing on Cornish, not Whyte

joshua6By Scott Gilfoid: With a very real threat in Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) looming down the road for December 12th, unbeaten #2 WBC Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) is trying not to think about that risky fight, and istead concentrate at the task at hand of facing unbeaten Gary Cornish (21-0, 12 KOs) this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Whyte is fighting Brian Minto (41-9, 26 KOs) on the Joshua-Cornish undercard in a move to help draw interest in the Joshua-Whyte fight on December 12th. Joshua says he’s not going to overlook the 28-year-old Cornish because he doesn’t believe in looking ahead, but obviously that’s something that Joshua has been doing a lot of in talking about wanting to fight the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight next year for the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles.

Whyte: Joshua is like a housewife that is being controlled

whyte7By Scott Gilfoid: Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) will be battling Brian Minto, and Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) takes on Gary Cornish in heavyweight action this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England. Whyte and Joshua will be meeting each other on December 12th if they win their respective fights on Saturday.

During Thursday’s final press conference, Whyte and Joshua jawed back and forth with one another about their upcoming December fight. Joshua doesn’t seem capable of taking Whyte seriously, as he sees him as little more than a speed bump that he doesn’t need to pay attention to or respect.

Joshua not looking past Cornish

joshua57By Scott Gilfoid: Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) says he’s not looking past his opponent Gary Cornish (21-0, 12 KOs) this Saturday towards a more dangerous fight against Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) on December 12th.

Joshua says his concentration is completely on the task at hand in trying to defeat the 28-year-old Cornish to capture the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Whyte is fighting on the undercard against Brian Minto (41-9, 26 KOs).

Joshua – Cornish & Whyte – Minto this Saturday at O2 Arena, London, UK

whyte7By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night boxing fans in the UK will be seeing two interesting heavyweight fights between #2 WBC, #3 WBO, #13 IBF, #13 WBA Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) and Gary Cornish (21-0, 12 KOs) in the main event in a fight for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title, and undefeated prospect Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) and 40-year-old Brian Minto (41-9, 26 KOs) in a fight for the vacant WBC International Silver heavyweight title at the O2 Arena in London, England.

The always tough Minto is a replacement for 40-year-old Dominic Guinn, who recently had to pull out of the fight with the hard hitting Whyte last week.

Dillian Whyte vs. Dominick Guinn on September 12th in London, UK

whyte555By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) will taking on the well-known American heavyweight Dominick Guinn (35-10-1, 24 KOs) in an Important 10 round bout on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Gary Cornish card on September 12th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The reason why the Whyte-Guinn fight is so important is because Whyte needs a win over Guinn in order to face the 6’6” Joshua in a big fight on December 12th. Whyte, 27, can write his own ticket if he can beat Guinn and Joshua in back to back fights. That would put Whyte within striking distance of a world title fight against the likes of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in 2016.

Dillian Whyte can beat Anthony Joshua, says Browne

whyte5By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Lucas Browne believes that undefeated heavyweight prospect Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) has the kind of talent and punching power in his arsenal for him to defeat undefeated No.2 WBC heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) when the two of them face each other in December in what will be a grudge match.

Joshua and Whyte have had a lot of words with one another ever since Whyte beat Joshua in the amateur ranks in knocking him down twice. Whyte whipped Joshua bad in that fight in 2009, and him falling on the canvas and against the ropes like a rag doll. Joshua was able to come back and win a gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics, but it was a controversial gold medal with many boxing fans thinking that Joshua lost to Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle in the finals and against Cuba’s Erislandy Savon in his first match. I had Joshua losing all four fights in the Olympics.

Joshua: Dillian Whyte is just another opponent

joshua100By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #2 WBC heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) says he’s not worried about facing unbeaten KO artist Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) later this year in December, because Joshua sees it as just another fight for him. In other words, Joshua isn’t worried at all about fighting the hard hitting Whyte, even though he batted Joshua around the ring when the two of them fought each other six years ago. Joshua says he’s not even bothered if he loses the fight to Whyte.

Joshua chocks the loss up to Whyte being more experienced at the time than he was. However, Joshua doesn’t appear to have improved as a fighter in all of those years, so it’s hard to see how anything will be different the second time around.

Whyte vs. Joshua on December 12th at O2 Arena, London, UK

joshua466By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed the date for the heavyweight clash between unbeaten British heavyweights Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs). They’ll be fighting on December 12th at the O2 Arena in London, UK, as long as long as they win their next fights on September 12th at the O2 Arena.

Joshua will be fighting unbeaten 6’8” Gary Cornish (21-0, 12 KOs) on that date. As for Whyte, he still doesn’t have an opponent yet. He wants someone with talent that can give him rounds, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen. Whyte mentioned Edmund Gerber as one of the possibilities.

Whyte interested in Lucas Browne or Erkan Teper for his September 12th fight

whyte7By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight talent Dillian Whyte (15-0, 12 KOs) says he’d like to face unbeaten Lucas Browne (22-0, 19 KOs) or EBU heavyweight champion Erkan Teper (15-0, 10 KOs) for his next fight a month from now on September 12th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Whyte, 6’4”, 250lbs, needs a good test to get him ready for his fight in December against unbeaten Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) in London.

Whyte doesn’t want a soft job for his next fight because he needs someone who can give him some rounds like Browne or Teper.

“I would love to fight Browne on the 12th of next month be a good fight,” Whyte said on his Twitter.
