Dawson faces long road back

dawson1By Nick Reynolds: Three punches. All Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 knockouts) needed was one of them.

In the 76th second of Saturday night’s main event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Adonis Stevenson launched a thunderous left cross that sent (now former) WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, Chad Dawson (31-3, 17 knockouts), crumbling to the canvas. Dawson managed to awkwardly stumble back to his feet to survive the ten count, but referee Michael Griffin deemed Dawson unfit to continue, and the fight was halted.

Stevenson vs. Dawson review & look at how Chad can bounce back

dawson54By Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): It took barely more than a minute, for a fight expected by most to last the full 12 rounds, to end. No surprise though in the man scoring the one punch KO, as Haiti-Canadian Adonis Stevenson landed a looping left hand to the jaw of Chad Dawson.

‘Bad’ Chad staggering to his feet was left once again to pick up the pieces after consecutive defeats and his 3rd of his career. Although the early defeat won’t have the same effects physically on Dawson as the previous two, but the concern is what has this defeat done to Dawson mentally.

Has Chad Dawson lost his punch resistance?

dawson100By Allan Fox: Chad Dawson (31-3, 17 KO’s) was knocked out for the second straight fight last Saturday night by Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO’s), and in the process of losing the fight, Dawson lost his WBC light heavyweight title. Dawson, 30, didn’t even make out of the 1st round against Stevenson, as he knocked out with the third punch of the fight by Stevenson.

Dawson only connected on two punches of his own during the fight, but to see him knocked out so quickly was rather alarming considering he’d been knocked out in his previous fight by Andre Ward last September.

Stevenson destroys Dawson; Gamboa decisions Perez

dawson2By Jim Dower: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-3, 17 KO’s) made the mistake of coming out aggressive tonight against the hard hitting Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO’s) and it cost him big time by Dawson getting knocked out by a single left hand from Stevenson in the 1st round at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Dawson was fighting more or less okay up to the point Stevenson nailed him with a big left hand shot. Once that shot landed, Dawson went down flat on his back on the canvas.

Stevenson’s promoter: If Adonis doesn’t beat Dawson it could be a long time before he gets another world title shot

stevenson222By Allan Fox: At 35-years-old, Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) is in a must win situation tonight against WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) in their HBO televised fight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. A loss for Stevenson will put him in a situation where it might take him one-two years get another title shot. At his age he can’t afford that because there’s no telling how much time the Canadian has left with his boxing career.

Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel said this about Stevenson’s situation as quoted by RingTV: If Adonis Stevenson doesn’t win this fight, it could be a very long time before we see another world championship fight here.”

Dawson vs. Stevenson: Will Chad be Superman’s Kryptonite?

dawson34By Tom Cowan: This Saturday, WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson faces Canadian challenger Adonis Stevenson at the Bell Centre, Montreal. Dawson is coming off a stoppage loss to Andre Ward, while Stevenson is coming off a win against Darnell Boone which avenged the only loss of his career so far.

Dawson was meant to fight Jean Pascal in an attempt to avenge his 2011 defeat but Pascal opted instead for an all-Canadian fight with former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute but an injury to Bute meant that fight had to be put back to December. Stevenson was supposed to be fighting Bute’s conqueror Carl Froch but the Brit opted to take a unification fight against Mikkel Kessler, which meant he could avoid Stevenson, his mandatory challenger. Stevenson wasn’t willing to wait until October or November to face Froch so he’s moved up a division to face Bad Chad.

Bellew wants Stevenson to beat Dawson on Saturday

dawson67By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew is chomping at the bit to get a shot against Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) and he’s really pulling for the 35-year-old fighter to beat WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

Bellew feels he’d do a lot better against Stevenson than he would against the defensive artist Dawson, and I think I’d have to agree with him. Stevenson is a lot more vulnerable to Bellew than Dawson would be.

Bellew said to Sky Ringside “If I was a betting man, without a doubt it’s Dawson. But if I could pick [who wins], I’d take Stevenson. Me and him would be just a war! I’d literally go to his backyard to fight him.”

Chad Dawson vs Adonis Stevenson: A look at Adonis Stevenson

stevenson221By Peter Wells (twitter – @boxingbrains): With just a few days to go until Chad Dawson defends his WBC Light Heavyweight title, I’ll be taking a look at his challenger, the 35 year old Canadian Adonis Stevenson. With just 21 fights to his name Stevenson is moving up from Super Middleweight having failed to secure a fight with one of the top guns at 168lbs. In modern day boxing Stevenson has failed to attract much attention outside of the fight game.

Having fought the majority of his fights in Canada he has some what gone under the radar, but Saturday night he has the chance to make a name for himself. Win, draw or lose, a good performance from Adonis against the world class Dawson would do wonders for his career. Having been a pro for just 7 years, Adonis still has time on his side even at the age of 35, a late bloomer he is, but compare him to fellow Light Heavyweight Bernard Hopkins and he’s a young pup.

Dawson vows to fight like he used to on Saturday against Stevenson

dawson3By Eric Thomas: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) feels that he’s going to be rolling back the years this Saturday night in his fight against Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

Dawson thinks he can fight at the level that he did back in 2007 when he dominated a young Tomasz Adamek in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision. Dawson hasn’t looked like the same fighter that year, as he doesn’t throw as many punches and he’s a lot more conservative with his fighting style.
