By Chris Williams: David Benavidez and Anthony Dirrell have agreed to a deal to face each other in September at a still to be determined venue, averting a purse bid that was scheduled for Friday in Mexico City. This will be the 21-year-old Benavidez’s second defense of his World Boxing Council 168lb title, and it’s a step up in class from his last two fights against Ronald Gavril. The venue for the fight still has to be decided.

By Jim Dower: Promotional companies Top Rank and Sampson Boxing could soon be going to court to decide which of them will get to WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez in their stables. According to ESPN, Top Rank signed the 21-year-old Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) to a promotional contract last week. However, Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing says he still has Benavidez under a promotional contract until 2021.

If the 21-year-old Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) signs with Top Rank, then he’s expected to fight on the undercard of the unification fight between WBA lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko and WBO champion Ray Beltran on August 25 on ESPN at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

The fight is being finalized, according to Dan Rafael.
