By John F. McKenna (McJack): When assessing the career of World Boxing Association (WBA) light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) it is clear that he is on the downward slope and not the magnificent fighter he was back in 2007. Cotto faced Shane Mosley when he was still referred to as “Sugar” Shane and had some fuel left in the tank.
Cotto vs. Mayweather
Will Cotto go to his knees if things get bad against Mayweather?
By Dan Ambrose: On May 5th, WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is taking his first real fight since his beat down against Manny Pacquiao in 2009 when he faces undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto has been matched ever so carefully by his former promoter Bob Arum, put in with old or somehow physically hobbled opposition in the last couple of years. But on May 5th, Cotto is fighting a world class opponent that’s not 100 years old or coming into the fight with an injury, and I just don’t see how this is going to go well for Cotto.
De La Hoya thinks Cotto will give Mayweather problems
Cotto will be in shock against Mayweather
By Dan Ambrose: When you take a fighter and stop putting him in with the best opposition and then all of a sudden put him in with a quality fighter, bad things happen. I see WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto being that fighter who will experience a lot of pain and embarrassment when he faces unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th.
Cotto already below 170 for Mayweather bout
By Chris Williams: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) has kept his weight down in between fights this time and not let himself gain a ton of weight. The 31-year-old Cotto is reportedly below 170lbs, and doesn’t have much weight to lose to make the 154 pound limit on May 5th in his mega fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cotto’s scar tissue around his eyes won’t hold up under Mayweather’s pounding
Cotto will get knocked out if he starts backing up against Mayweather
By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will do alright against Floyd Mayweather Jr. as long as he’s coming forward or using lateral movement in their May 5th fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Where Cotto has had problems in the past is when he backpedals under fire and gets hit with big shots as he backs into the ropes.
If Cotto beats Mayweather it’s going to be huge for boxing
By Allan Fox: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) defends his title on May 5th against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) in a fight where most boxing fans figure that Mayweather should come out on top in a rather decisive manner. However, a win for Cotto will not only be big thing for his career but a huge thing for the sport of boxing as well. Mayweather will be out of the picture permanently for Pacquiao and we can forget the nonsense about hype behind the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.
