By Dan Ambrose: If you were to describe what the December 1st match-up between Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) and WBA World light middleweight Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) was all about you’d have to consider it an old age vs. youth type battle with the 27-year-old Trout representing the youth side of the fight. He’s a young 27, hasn’t been in any wars, and has been able to win most of his fights without taking much punishment.

By Dan Ambrose: About to turn 32 on October 29th, age could be something that is starting to rear it’s ugly head for Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) as he heads into his December 1st fight against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden, in New York.

(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) is hoping that Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) won’t be harboring a grudge and that they can still possibly be friends after Trout whips Cotto on December 1st at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York. For Trout, it’s not personal. It’s just his time and Cotto happens to be in the way. The old have to give way for the young, and Cotto is getting up there in age at nearly 32.
Trout said “I know this fight will be the changing of the guard…I still feel a little bad for him…I’ve been a Cotto fan and he’s had a great career…I hope they all know this…They’re going to watch him pass the torch.”
Cotto interested in Mayweather and Canelo fights if he gets past Trout
By Dan Ambrose If Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) can get past WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) on December 1st, then Cotto says he’d like to either get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or face WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in a unification bout.
Cotto told Dan Rafael at ESPN “I’m here for the big names, for the real fights…I’m ready for anyone as long as it’s fair business. Mayweather, fine. Canelo? After this fight, we can sit with his promoter [Golden Boy Promotions] and we can figure something.”

Trout said to RingTV “I am a lot physically bigger than him…Seeing it up close, it was funny…We agreed that if we need to, we can definitely push this little dude around…He did have a little bit of a belly on him.”
Macklin picks Trout to defeat Cotto

Trout and Cotto will be fighting on December 1st at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York.
Macklin said to RingTV “It it was Cotto in his prime, then I would say Cotto. But the timing of the fight might suit Trout. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an upset.”
Austin Trout’s youth and talent will cause Cotto a lot of problems
(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) should have accepted the offer to fight Manny Pacquiao because in choosing to fight WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) on December 1st, Cotto could be kissing goodbye any chance of a big money rematch with Pacquiao should Trout dominate him and hand him another loss. Cotto was beaten in his last fight by Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May.
That’s an excusable loss because Mayweather is one of the top fighters in the sport. However, that wasn’t a prime Mayweather that beat Cotto; that was an older Mayweather who purposely chose to Cotto’s fight in order to make it more exciting. Cotto still lost even with Mayweather fighting flat-footed for 12 rounds. A loss to Trout will be a much bigger flow to Cotto’s career, because Trout isn’t a huge star, and few fans see him as one of the top fighters in the sport.
Cotto: I’ll beat Trout and become world champion again

Cotto feels he’s going to win this belt and bring the strap back to his home country of Puerto Rico.
31-year-old Cotto is coming off of a 12 round decision loss against Floyd Maywether Jr. last May where Cotto was almost knocked out in the 12th round by Mayweather. It looked Mayweather could have finished Cotto if he had wanted to.
De La Hoya sees Trout as a very dangerous opponent for Cotto
(Photo: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya, the president of Golden Boy Promotions, is very worried about Miguel Cotto’s next fight against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) on December 1st. De La Hoya doesn’t like this match-up for the short 5’7″ Cotto and he feels that Cotto might have made a mistake in taking this fight given that he’s got bigger money options available against the likes of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next year.
De La Hoya said to Boxingmundial.com “He [Trout] has everything to win and nothing to lose…It’s a dangerous fight. I personally don’t like it…very difficult. Unpredictable.”
I agree with De La Hoya’s thoughts, but I think the fight has got to happen. If you’ve got a guy like Cotto who’s gotten a little older and is ready to be ripped apart by the young lions like Trout, it’s got to be done.
Trout not worried about the NY crowd for Cotto bout

But Trout isn’t bothered by the fact that he’ll have few fans supporting him when he faces Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) on December 1st at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York.
Cotto is from Puerto Rico, but he’s got a large fan base in the New York area that will be showing up to cheer him on against Trout. For his part, Trout will be lucky if any of his fans will be heard in this fight.
