Mayweather has offered $50M to Conor McGregor for fight

Floyd MayweatherBy Jeff Aranow: Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. has reportedly offered UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor $50 million to fight him this year before the end of the year in a giant PPV fight. Mayweather would receive nine-figures if the fight takes place. The imbalance in pay could make it tough for the fight to happen though because Mayweather would be making two times the amount that McGregor is getting if the fight takes place.

Getting the 27-year-old McGregor and his management to agree to a deal where he’s getting only half as much as Mayweather might make the fight untenable unless Mayweather is willing to give him a better cut.

Arum says Mayweather vs. McGregor shouldn’t be allowed

arum97By Jeff Aranow: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is targeting MMA star Conor McGregor as his next opponent in resuming his boxing career. Mayweather says he’s still undecided about whether he’ll return to the ring or not, but if he does decide to fight on, he’d like to face the 27-year-old McGregor for his next fight.

Mayweather thinks a fight against McGregor will bring in the same amount of PPV buys as his fight against Manny Pacquiao. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum thinks it’s a really bad idea for Mayweather and McGregor to fight each other because he feels it would be a joke if the fight takes place in a boxing ring.

Image: Mayweather: If I fight, it's only against Conor McGregorBy Patrick McHugh: Floyd Mayweather Jr. still isn’t sure whether he’ll be returning to the ring to resume his career, but he’s taken the guesswork out of who he’ll be facing if he does choose to come back to the sport in 2016 or thereafter.

Mayweather says the only guy he’ll face is UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. He’s not even a boxer, and the only experience he has in fighting is the standup fighting he does during his MMA fights. Mayweather is really hedging his bets by going after a UFC fighter for his next fight.

Roach says he was asked to train Conor McGregor for boxing

roach55By Jeff Aranow: Trainer Freddie Roach said he was contacted by some to train MMA fighter Conor McGregor in boxing. Roach isn’t sure whether they want him to help trainer the 27-year-old McGregor (19-3) to get ready for a fight against superstar boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. or what.

Roach says if they want him to train McGregor, he’ll do it if he comes to his gym. With that said, Roach doesn’t think it’s possible for him to train McGregor to beat Mayweather in one training camp. Roach says McGregor would need to be trained by him for three years to have a chance against Mayweather.

Mayweather vs. McGregor = Another fail for Floyd

floyd9By Jeff Aranow: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s interested in coming back to the ring for a nine-figure payday against UFC fighter Conor McGregor in what he says will be a boxing match. First off, a fight against McGregor will be lucky if it brings in 500,000 PPV buys because McGregor isn’t a star in the sport of boxing and he clearly wouldn’t have a clue what to do in the ring against Mayweather or any fighter in the sport.

Without a HUGE handicap to give McGregor a chance, he’ll be embarrassed by Mayweather and the boxing fans will be upset for having shelled out a lot of cash to see this farce. For Mayweather Jr. to have a chance of getting a nine-figure payday, the PPV prices will need to be through the roof in the $100 range just like they were for his fight against Manny Pacquiao last year in May 2015.
