By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2,-1, 32 KOs) has analyzed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and come to the conclusion that he’s afraid of middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Chavez Jr. has been thinking this for a while now, but he thinks that Canelo chose him because he thinks it’s going to be an easier fight than if he were to step inside the ring with GGG, which would be a hard fight for him potentially.

Chavez Jr. says he wants to show that Canelo made a mistake in selecting him, because he’s going to use his size and punching power on the 26-year-old Canelo when the two of them fight in three months from now on HBO PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Image: Chavez Jr. confirms $1M per pound weight penalty for Canelo fight

By Jeff Aranow: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. says there is a $1 million per pound weight penalty for his May 6 fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez. It’s a penalty that can impact either fighter, although you have to figure that Chavez Jr. would be the one more at risk at being hit with the $1 million per pound weight penalty due to him coming in over the 168 lb. super middleweight limit several times in the last three years.

The Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight will take place at a catch-weight of 164 ½ pounds. Chavez Jr. says he’s at 180 pounds right now, and he feels that he’s going to be able to make the catch-weight. If he fails to, then the money will go to Canelo.

Angulo explains why Canelo chose Chavez Jr. instead of Golovkin

Image: Angulo explains why Canelo chose Chavez Jr. instead of Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Alfredo Angulo hints that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) lacks the heart, which is why he’s chosen to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1 32 KOs) in his next fight on May 6 instead of middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). Angulo, who lost to Canelo by a 10th round knockout in March 2014, says the reason why Chavez Jr. getting the fight is because he doesn’t have the same boxing skills as Golovkin, and that he’ll likely struggle to make the 164.5lb catch-weight fight the fight on May 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Angulo says that Canelo and his promoters know that Chavez Jr. is going to struggle to make the weight in having to melt down to the catch-weight limit.

By Jeff Aranow: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has a “big chance” of beating undefeated Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if the two of them face each other this year, says former four division world champion Erik Morales. He sees improvement in the game of the 26-year-old Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in his recent fights, and he thinks that might give him the ability to beat the 34-year-old Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).

Morales sees the Canelo-Golovkin fight as an even one right now, but he does feel that Golovkin has more experience and technical ability of the two.
