Smith defeats Rebrasse, looks very poor

smith7By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC Callum Smith (17-0, 12 KOs) was badly exposed tonight in winning a very unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision win over Christopher Rebrasse (23-4-3, 6 KOs) on Friday night to capture the vacant WBC Silver super middleweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Other than main event, the fight card was filled with mismatches as far as the eye could see. Promoter Eddie Hearn’s A-side fighters all won, but the match-making was just awful to the extreme. It wasn’t even sporting. I’m just wondering where Hearn found all these over-matched B-side fighters.

The judges scores were 118-110, 118-110 and 120-107. The scores were extremely wide and not accurate to the actual took place. I had Rebrasse winning six rounds of the fight. What we learned from this fight was Smith can only throw body punches. He doesn’t have any punching power when he goes to the head.

By Gav Duthie: Eddie Hearn has dubbed tonight’s card at the Liverpool Echo Arena ‘All or nothing’ for Liverpudlian duo Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding. Matchroom promotions has them on a collision course as Hearn has already penciled them in to face each other on September 26 for the British title recently vacated by Paul Smith. Both fighters need to focus on the tasks at hand as they have tough assignments this weekend for Fielding in particular.

Callum Smith vs. Christopher Rebrasse this Friday, June 26th in Liverpool, UK

smith5By Scott Gilfoid: #11 WBC, #11 IBF super middleweight contender Christopher Rebrasse (23-3-3, 6 KOs) plans on exposing unbeaten #3 WBC, #13 IBF Callum Smith (16-0, 12 KOs) this Friday, June 26th, in their fight for the vacant WBC Silver Super middleweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

The WBC Silver trinket is of less importance compared to the move up in the rankings that a victory for the 29-year-old Rebrasse would mean to him if he’s able to whip the stork-like 6’3” Smith.

Callum Smith wants George Groves

groves67788888By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight prospect Callum Smith wants to face EBU 168 pound champion George Groves in the near future, according to Smith’s trainer Joe Gallagher. Smith, the younger brother of the recently beaten Paul Smith, wants to test himself against Groves. Whether that’s a possibility is hard to say.

We won’t know until Groves gets in the ring against WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell in 2015, because Groves is likely going to play it safe until then so that he doesn’t mess up his potential world title shot.

Bellew stops Dos Santos; Joshua and Cleverly also win

bellew7898By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (22-2-1, 14 KO’s) stopped 36-year-old Brazilian Julio Cesar Dos Santos (26-3, 23 KO’s) in the 5th round on Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Bellew connected with a left hook that dropped Dos Santos in the 5th. Dos Santos staggered to his feet, but the referee halted it anyway.

Dos Santos was nailing Bellew with monstrous shots in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Going into the 5th, Dos Santos looked like he was on his way to victory. He looked like he was going to get to Bellew. Fortunately for Bellew, Dos Santos threw a left hook at the same time that Bellew threw his own left hook. Bellew’s left hand got there first and sent Dos Santos down.

Biosse expects to give Callum Smith big problems on Saturday

smith5By Scott Gilfoid: The hard hitting Vladine Biosse (15-3-2, 7 KO’s) will be fighting the 6’3” highly hyped but still very flawed Callum Smith (11-0, 9 KO’s) this Saturday night in a 10 round bout at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

This is going to be the proving ground for the lanky 6’3” Smith, who can punch with a little of power from the outside, but who looks horrible when facing guys that come to the inside on him.

Biosse, 32, will likely be crowding Smith all night long to chip away at his midsection and to nail him with hooks to the head. Smith doesn’t do a very good job of moving to prevent being pressured, so you can bet this fight is going to be won or lost on the inside on Saturday. Biosse is the better fighter by far on the inside, and he could open some eyes in this fight by either scoring a stoppage or making Smith look really bad in winning.
