DeGale picks Callum Smith to defeat Rocky Fielding

degale56By Scott Gilfoid: IBF 168lb champion James DeGale is picking unbeaten #1 WBC Callum Smith (17-0, 12 KOs) to defeat undefeated #10 WBC Rocky Fielding (21-0, 12 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night on November 7th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Personally, I don’t care who wins this fight. I see both of these guys as flawed, and I feel the same way about DeGale. The winner of the Smith-Fielding fight will still be no better off than they were before, because these guys have holes in their games that will be exploited when they eventually step it up.

It’s only the British strap that the two stork-like fighters are fighting over and not and world title at stake. A British Super-Middleweight Super Six Tournament

smith1111By Robbie Bannatyne: They say when one door closes another door opens. So while many boxing fans are mourning the loss of Carl Froch, after he announced that the George Groves fight was indeed his last gig, we shouldn’t worry too much. As there is a new band of British super-middleweights who are ready to usher in a fresh, exciting era.

There is an embarrassment of riches at 168lb, the only problem being that all the top British fighters want to be front men- none of the band will be content playing bass. Of course not all the eminent 168lb British boxers can take centre stage: there must be winners and losers in the battle for supremacy in the super-middleweight division.

smith1111By Scott Gilfoid: After witnessing undefeated super middleweight Rocky Fielding (21-0, 12 KOs) obliterate middleweight journeyman Brian Vera (23-10, 14 KOs) last Friday night, promoter Eddie Hearn seems to have changed his mind about wanting Fielding to face undefeated No.3 WBC Callum Smith (17-0, 12 KOs) for the British title this year.

The Smith-Fielding fight was one that was being talked about as their next fight, but Hearn has now decided to keep them in separate lanes for them both to try and get world title shots. Hearn believes that both fighters can get cracks at world titles within 12 months from now.
