By Jim Dower: Last Saturday night, Adrien Broner proved that he can still bring in good ratings with him pulling in an average of 779,000 viewers with a peak of 850,000 viewers on Showtime Championship Boxing for his fight against Adrian “Tigre” Granados at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This is potentially good news for the career of the 27-year-old Broner, because it might increase his chances of getting a big fight. That’s something that Broner has never had in his 9-year pro career despite being a popular fighter himself.

Do we have two new big players in the welterweight division?

Image: Do we have two new big players in the welterweight division?

By Gav Duthie: On Saturday night, Ohio hosted an event which saw two new players in Adrian Broner and Lamont Peterson added to an already talent stacked welterweight division. The 147lb weight class has been a bit stagnant since the retirement of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015 but with additions like Adrien Broner and Lamont Peterson as well as top end fights between Danny Garcia v Keith Thurman and Kell Brook v Errol Spence conveys a bright future.

The question after Saturday is just how relevant will Broner and Peterson be in this future. Adrien Broner won a split decision over 10 rounds against the relentless Adrian Granados whilst on the undercard Lamont Peterson outpointed David Avanyesan to capture the vacant WBA title.

Adrien Broner: The problem with “The Problem”

Image: Adrien Broner: The problem with “The Problem”

By Jermill Pennington: Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33 -2-24ko) was in the ring this past weekend Versus a formidable foe in Adrian “Tigre” Granados (18-5-2). Granados’ claim to fame is knocking off the highly touted prospect Amir Imam in what was supposed to be an easy fight for Imam. Instead, Granados ruined all plans and finished Imam in shocking fashion with an 8th round TKO victory.

With the victory Granados had surely set himself up for another fight. Meanwhile Broner who’s last time in the ring was less than memorable versus Ashley Theophane, was doing more fighting in the court room than he doing was in the ring.

By Jim Dower: Adrien Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) says he’s done fishing after beating Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs) by a 10 round split decision last Saturday night, and he’s now open to fighting Manny Pacquiao or the winner of the Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman fight. Broner says that he’s capable of competing with the best fighters in the 147 lb. division, although he says he broke his left hand in beating Granados at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. If the hand is broken, it’s going to take time for Broner to heal and come back from the injury.

It was thought that Broner, 27, would try and get back down to the 140 lb. division for his next fight, because he did not shine in defeating Granados. But it appears that Broner plans on fighting at welterweight in his next fight if he can get a fight against one of the top fighters.

By Jeff Aranow: Light welterweight contender Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs) was unimpressed with what he saw from Adrien Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) in their fight last Saturday night at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The fight took place in the welterweight division at the weight of 147 lbs. Broner won the match by a 10 round split decision, but it could have gone either way. Granados said repeatedly after the fight that he felt that he won, and a lot of boxing fans agree with him.

Purses: Broner $1M, Granados $250K

Image: Purses: Broner $1M, Granados $250K

By Jim Dower: The purses are a little lopsided in favor of former four division world champion Adrien Broner for his fight tonight against Adrian Granados at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) will be receiving a purse of $1 million compared to just $250,000 for Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs), according to Dan Rafael.

The million purse for the 27-year-old Broner isn’t what many in the boxing world thought he would be making at this point in his career. Years earlier before Broner was beaten by Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter, he was seen as a future pay-per-view star, and a fighter that would someday take over for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to carry the sport on his back.
