By Dan Ambrose: As expected, #5 WBO Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) has appealed his recent 12 round unanimous decision loss at the hands of Timothy Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) from June 27th to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) to try and have them overturn the defeat and rule it a no contest.

Vargas believes that the mistake that referee Pat Russell made in halting the fight prematurely with 7 seconds remaining in the fight resulted in him not getting the chance to KO a badly hurt Bradley.

By Allan Fox: Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) is going to have to live with his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) from last month on June 27th, as the World Boxing Organization has made the decision not to have the two fighters face each other again to clear up the controversy surrounding the premature ending of their fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The referee working the fight Pat Russell mistakenly stopped the fight with four seconds remaining after he thought he heard the final bell. Not only has the WBO ruled against a rematch, the California State Athletic Commission has decided not to change the results of the fight to a no contest, according to the Review Journal.

I might as well call him from now on Controversy Tim or at least he should consider changing his nickname to “Controversy”.

I really don’t know how Bradley manages to put himself into trouble every time, but he certainly has something special going on with it.

HBO Championship Boxing, which is having an outstanding year so far, celebrated the broadcast of their thousandth bout. For Bradley, who won the 2013 fight of the year against Ruslan Provodnokov at this same venue, he added another exciting victory to his ledger.

By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday’s clash between Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) and Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) at 147lbs, brought in an average of 1.21 million viewers on HBO Championship Boxing, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. The fight, which took place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, peaked at a high of 1.228 million, it at No.9 in terms of the most viewed fight on HBO in 2015.

While that’s not exactly great, it’s still not bad considering how poor the fight was. It was a bad fight on paper coming into last Saturday, and the fight itself was a real disappointment until Vargas briefly hurt Bradley in the 12th round.

By Jim Dower: It looks like boxing fans could soon be seeing a rematch between newly crowned WBO interim welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) and Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs), even though the outcome will likely be just the same with Bradley winning another easy 12 round unanimous decision like we saw last night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

After last night’s controversial ending in which the referee Pat Russell mistakenly stopped the fight 10 seconds early, Bradley has agreed to give Vargas a rematch. However, whether we see a rematch or not will depend largely on Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum and on the World Boxing Organization.

By Dan Ambrose: Referee Pat Russell may have saved Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) from getting knocked out by halting the fight 10 seconds early to preserve Bradley’s 12 round unanimous decision win over Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Russell thought that the bell to end the fight had rung, which is why he halted the fight early. The stoppage by Russell was a life saver for Bradley, because moments before that, Vargas had badly hurt Bradley with a big right hand and had him out on his feet. With the 10 seconds to go in the fight, Vargas would have had a decent chance of finishing off Bradley because he literally out on his feet.

The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 117-111, 115-112.

Bradley has been fighting against major competition since 2006, and he’s got a huge start of the 26-year-old Vargas, who is fighting his first tough foe of his career. Bradley has put on a lot of muscle for this fight, and he’s hoping to use his new power to score a stoppage tonight.
