By Eric Thomas: Despite what the Klitschko brothers are saying about World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev not wanting to fight him, Valuev’s promoter Wilfried Sauerland begs to differ, saying that they’ve not been approached by the Klitschko brothers with a serious offer by them nor have them had contact in them in a year.

Cotto’s Stock Increased With Mosley’s Win
By Matt Stein: If there’s anyone whose stock was increased this past weekend, it was Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs), who with his previous 12-round unanimous decision over Shane Mosley in November 2007, has to be seen as the fighter to beat in the welterweight division. Cotto, 28, may have lost by an 11th round TKO to Margarito in 2008, but he fought him incredibly tough and he did it by not clinching constantly in the manner that Mosley did in beating Margarito.
Juan Manuel Marquez Bio
By Sam Gregory: Juan Manuel Marquez comes from a strong boxing pedigree. His brother, Rafael Marquez, is a former world champion who has won world titles at the bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 on May 29th, 1993 and lost his first bout by way of disqualification to Javier Duran.
Juan Diaz Bio
By Sam Gregory: Juan Diaz was 105-5 as an amateur. He thought he was qualified for the 2000 Mexican Olympic team but was informed he was too young to compete in the 2000 summer games in Sydney, Australia. He decided he didn’t want to wait four more years so he turned pro at the age of 16. Diaz made his professional boxing debut on June 23, 2000 with a first round TKO win over Rafael Ortiz. Diaz won all of his first five fights by KO or TKO.
If Calzaghe’s Girl Friend Wants Him To Quit, Maybe He Should
By Nate Anderson: Apparently Joe Calzaghe’s girl friend wants him to get out of boxing and retire from the sport. According to Walesonline.co.uk, Calzaghe’s girl friend wanted him to retire after his fight with Roy Jones Jr. November. However, Calzaghe seems frozen at this point, unable to make a decision whether to stay or go into retirement. The latest word is that he wants to fight one more time possibly against Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright or Chad Dawson, but it’s still unknown whether he’ll actually fight any of them. If Calzaghe is serious about retiring soon, these fights would be a tough bout to go out on because Calzaghe would need to be there mentally 100% to win.
What’s Next For Mosley?
By Manuel Perez: New WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) must feel like a little kid in a big candy store since winning the title from Antonio Margarito with an upset 9th round TKO on Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. With the decks stacked against him, the small 5’9″ Mosley pulled off the upset by using his natural advantage in hand speed along with a strategy which included a lot of clinching to defeat Margarito.
Salvador Sanchez Would Have Turned 50 This Week
By Sam Gregory: The sport of boxing has had more than its share of great athletes whose careers were cut short and turned into a tragic ending. One of the greatest boxers in the last fifty years whose life was cut short is Salvador “Chava” Sanchez. If Salvador’s life had not been cut short, this week he would have celebrated his 50th birthday. Salvador Sanchez died tragically when the Porsche he was driving collided with a pick-up truck killing him and his passenger on August 12, 1982; Sanchez was just 23 years old.
Calzaghe Thinks Jones Can Win Another Title
By Jim Dower: In an interview with The Sun, Joe Calzaghe gave 40-year-old Roy Jones Jr. (52-5, 38 KOs) a vote of confidence about his fading career, saying “Jones still has a lot left…I believe Jones has a bit of gas left in the tank and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as a world champion again.” However, it’s hard to take serious what Calzaghe says, because Jones, with the exception of the 1st round in which he knocked Calzaghe down, looked poor throughout the 12-round fight, having difficulty in pulling the trigger with his punches, even with Calzaghe standing directly in front of him and daring him to throw punches.
Is Mayweather Next For the Hatton-Pacquiao Winner?
By Manuel Perez: With the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton looking as if it’s back on course (at least for now) for May 2nd, the big question is who will the winner choose to fight in the next fight? For Hatton, it’s an easy answer. He wants to gain revenge for his 10th round TKO loss to Mayweather in December 2007, and he’d likely go after him immediately if Ricky ends up defeating Manny on May 2nd. In Pacquiao’s case, the answer’s not that simple.
Calzaghe May Fight Once More Against Dawson, Hopkins or Wright
By Dave Lahr: Joe Calzaghe could possibly be looking at fighting one more time against either Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson or Winky Wright at the Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. According to The Telegraph, Calzaghe has “dreams” of fighting at the Millennium Stadium, presumably because he wants to fight in front of a huge audience which would likely be as large as 60,000.
