Also on the card is mandatory challenger Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s), who will be fighting in an eight round bout against a still to be determined opponent.

By Kevin Wrigley: Only 2-3 years ago the 147 pound division was stacked form top to bottom with excellent boxers. Historically it has been one of boxing’s stronger divisions (especially at the start of the 1980’s). Floyd Mayweather Jr was at the top of the pile then there were excellent fighters such as Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams and Shane Mosley. Slightly lower down the pyramid was teak tough Ghanaian Joshua Clottey, the power punching Kermit Cintron and southpaw spoiler Luis Collazo. You also had the rising star that was Andre Berto, who went on to win one of Floyds vacated belts.

This is the type of fight that fans crave, that puts the boxing spectator, whether he is eating hot dogs or drinking a beer, on the edge of his chair. If this fight is made it should not be an undercard, it should be the main event.

Aydin, 27, reportedly took a step aside fee so that Berto could take the fight with the lower ranked Freddy Hernandez in November, but Aydin, the mandatory challenger for Berto, now wants his title shot. Aydin is not happy that Berto is talking of now fighting a bout against light welterweight Victor Ortiz on April 16th instead of facing him.

By Jason Kim: Although the April16th proposed bout between WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto and light welterweight Victor Ortiz is still only being talked about, it’s a real possibility that this fight will he happening on HBO in April. This would be one of those HBO in house fights, because both Ortiz and Berto are HBO fighters and this would be one way for HBO to put on a somewhat decent fight.

Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz a possibility for April 16th

By Jason Kim: According to news from The Ring, there’s talk of an April 16th bout between World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) and light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz 28-2-2, 22 KO’s). Berto, who tends to fight light welterweights instead of welterweights for his title defenses, was recently rumored to be fighting 36-year-old former light welterweight Randall Bailey next. The fight will be held at a catch weight of 143 or 144 pounds.
