Crolla dreams of being world champion

crolla2By Scott Gilfoid: #9 WBC Anthony Crolla (29-4-3, 11 KOs) is really looking forward to his rematch against WBA World lightweight champion Darleys Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs) in 12 days from now on November 21st at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. Crolla, 28, says he dreams of being a world champion.

The fact that Crolla is getting a second chance at fighting Perez for a world title has to be considered a gift by the World Boxing Association, who ordered a rematch between them after the two fighters fought to a 12 round draw last July. Having seen the Perez-Crolla fight, Crolla really lucked out in getting a draw because he would have lost the fight if the referee working the fight Howard John Foster hasn’t taken points off from Perez in the 11th and 12 rounds of the fight.

Froch: Broner can’t back it up in the ring

Image: Froch: Broner can’t back it up in the ringBy Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch thinks that former three division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) is a Floyd Mayweather Jr. imitator who can’t back it up in the ring.

Froch sees Broner as being little more than a clown at best, and he’s not impressed with him as a fighter. Froch doesn’t believe that the talented 26-year-old Broner is the real deal. You can’t argue with the success that this young talent has had.

Anthony Crolla expects to beat Darleys Perez on November 21st

crolla2By Scott Gilfoid: After getting a controversial draw last July in his failed attempt to capture the WBA “regular” lightweight title against champion Darleys Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs), #11 WBA Anthony Crolla (29-4-3, 11 KOs) will be getting another chance to win the WBA title against Perez on November 21st at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. This time Crolla expects to leave no doubt in the minds of the judges by looking to dominate Perez. Crolla took a lot of punishment in that fight from Perez, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Crolla comes into the rematch at 75% of what he was the first time around.

The World Boxing Association has ordered the rematch between Crolla and Perez to clear up the controversy from their last fight.

Crolla was quite fortunate to get a draw last time against Perez, because Crolla would have lost the fight if the referee hadn’t taken points off in the 11th and 12th rounds for Perez landing low blows. The referee literally saved Crolla from losing by taking those points away. The point deduction in the 12th came when Crolla pulled Perez’s head forward to the point where he was in a bent over position while he was in the process of throwing a punch.

Anthony Crolla vs. Darleys Perez 2 on November 21st in Manchester

crolla2By Scott Gilfoid: The appeal by Anthony Crolla (29-4-3, 11 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn to the World Boxing Association has paid off with the WBA letting Crolla fight WBA World lightweight champion Darleys Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs) again in a rematch that will be taking place on November 21st at the Manchester Arena in in Manchester, UK.

Crolla came up empty in having to settle for a 12 round draw in their fight last July. It’s a fight that Crolla would have lost hand the referee not taken points off from Perez in the 11th and 12th rounds of that fight. The fight kind of reminded me of the Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson bout from 2011.

Anthony Crolla given immediate rematch against Darleys Perez for November 21st in Manchester

crolla2(Anthony Crolla seen here pulling down on Darleys Perez’s head in the 12th round as he throws a punch, which wound up being low and costing him a point) By Scott Gilfoid: #11 WBA contender Anthony Crolla (29-4-3, 11 KOs) will be getting an immediate rematch against WBA World lightweight champion Darleys Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs) after Crolla’s promoter Eddie Hearn appealed the results of Crolla’s previous fight against Perez from July 18th, a fight which was scored as a 12 round draw.

Hearn is now planning on having the rematch staged in the same area in Manchester on November 21st. Perez likely isn’t two excited about having to go back to the same place where he was arguably robbed of a victory the last time out.

By Erhan Bora: Going into his WBA lightweight world title shot, many has Manchester’s Anthony Crolla as a massive underdog but on the night he pulled out all the tricks. After having his original title shot against Richar Abril cancelled due to a fractured skull and snapped ankle injury sustained while chasing burglars who attempted to break into his neighbor’s house, things looked bleak for Crolla.

Perez-Crolla ends in draw; Quigg destroys Martinez; Murray stops Bajrektarevic

martinez111By Scott Gilfoid: Referee Howard Foster inserted himself into the fight in the 11th and 12th rounds, taking off points from Darleys Perez (33-1-1, 20 KOs) for low blows, resulting in his fight against #11 WBA fringe contender Anthony Crolla (29-5-2 11 KOs) being scored a 12 round draw on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

The final judges’ scores were 114-113 for Perez, 116-111 for Crolla and 113-113. I had Perez winning the fight 10 rounds to 2. I didn’t buy the low blow stuff that went on in the 11th and 12th. It was a case of Crolla pulling Perez’s head down while he was throwing punches, and I didn’t see how the referee could have taken points off from that. But besides that, Perez won both the 11th and 12th rounds on my card, so they were even rounds.

Weights: Quigg-Martinez, Perez-Crolla & Murray-Bajretarevic

crolla2(Photo credit: Thompson Boxing) By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated WBA “regular” super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs) made weight on Friday for his title defense against #11 WBA fringe contender Kiko Martinez (32-5, 24 KOs) for their fight this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Quigg weighed in at 121.75lbs. His opponent came in at 121.6. It’s difficult to get really excited about the Quigg-Martinez match-up because Martinez has beaten twice by Carl Frampton. I’m not sure what the purpose was in Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hear matching him against an opponent who has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights in Martinez, but whatever the case it’s not interesting.
