Zab Judah: Daniel Jacobs beats Gennady Golovkin

Image: Zab Judah: Daniel Jacobs beats Gennady GolovkinBy Jeff Aranow: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) says he thinks IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) is vulnerable to fighters that have boxing skills and good fundamentals. Judah, 38, says WBA World middleweight champion Daniel “Golden Child” Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) has the kind of talent needed to give Golovkin his first loss of his career if/when the two fighters face each other in the future.

Jacobs, 29, holds the WBA “regular” 160lb title and Golovkin the WBA “Super” middleweight title. Golovkin would likely be very interested in facing Golovkin if he weren’t attempting to get a much bigger fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for his next fight in September or November.

Judah thinks Khan can beat Canelo with speed

judah66By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Zab Judah is giving Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) a good chance of beating WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on May 7.

Judah, who was stopped by Khan in 2011, thinks that his speed could be the difference in this fight. Judah doesn’t see Canelo’s size and power advantage being enough for him to win this fight if Khan fights smart an boxes the slower-moving Canelo for 12 rounds.

Where Judah believes that Khan could get in trouble is if he tries to fight toe-to-toe against Canelo after getting nailed by one of his big shots. Khan has a habit of wanting to pay his opponents back by nailing them after he gets hit hard. This has led to Khan getting hurt and even stopped in some of his fights.

Curtis Stevens to fight in the spring

stevens1By Allan Fox: Former world title challenger Curtis Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs) will reportedly be back inside the ring in the spring against an opponent still to be determined. Stevens, 30, hasn’t fought since losing to Hassan N’Dam in October 2014.

Stevens didn’t fight at all in 2015, which was a shame because it would have been good for him to resume his career to pick up some momentum to load up for another world title fight. In November 2013, Stevens was stopped by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the 8th round of a one-sided fight.

Stevens is still young, and powerful. He could easily cause the other top middleweights problems if he could get a fight against the likes of David Lemieux, Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin.

Stevenson-Karpency averaged 581K viewers on Spike

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: Last Friday’s fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) and challenger Tommy Karpency (25-5-1, 14 KOs) brought in disappointing ratings on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The fight brought in an average of 581,000 viewers on Spike with a peak of 784,000. Those numbers likely reflect the poor match-up that the fight was. Stevenson’s adviser Al Haymon should have known from the moment the contract was signed that there would be little fan interest in this mismatch.

Canelo will beat Cotto, says Judah

Image: Canelo will beat Cotto, says JudahBy Dan Ambrose: Boxing great Zab Judah says he’s leaning in the direction of the 25-year-old Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) to top WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) on November 21st and take his title in their match-up on HBO pay-per-view.

Judah has fought the 34-year-old Cotto in the past in losing by an 11th round knockout defeat in June 2007, so he’s well versed in what kind of game he has. Judah thinks that Canelo’s superior size, youth and punching power will be the telling factors in him getting a win over Cotto.

Zab Judah vs. Hevinson Herrera on September 10th

judah99By Jim Dower: 37-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) will be returning from a two year absence from the ring to face 31-year-old Colombian journeyman Hevinson Herrera (18-11-1, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout on September 10th at The Space at Westbury, in Westbury, New York.

Judah is trying to resurrect his career, but it’s going to be awfully hard for him to do that. The once great Judah has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights before he stopped fighting in 2013 following a one-sided 12 round decision loss to Paulie Malignaggi.

Judah to fight on September 10th, wants Matthysse rematch

judah4345By Dan Ambrose: The soon to be 38-year-old Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) will be launching a comeback on September 10th on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS in a fight against an opponent still to be determined in New York. Judah hasn’t fought in almost two years since losing a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Paulie Malignaggi in December 2013.

Judah couldn’t pull the trigger on his shots in that fight, and he looked completely over-the-hill. Judah says the time that he’s had out of the ring since then has him feeling fresh, and he says he wants to fight a rematch against the big punching Lucas Matthysse after he takes a couple of tune-up bouts.

Judah: Mayweather-Berto is going to be a more interesting fight than people think

Floyd Mayweather and Andre BertoBy Jim Dower: Former two division world champion Zab Judah believes that Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) has a chance in his fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) on September 12th on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judah sees Berto as still young at 31, and someone who has the drive to win due to his upbringing. Judah thinks that Berto’s warrior heart will make him fight hard to try and get the win over Mayweather.

Judah: We’re calling Mayweather “The scientist”

floyd6By Chris Williams: Since he started working with WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) as a sparring partner to help him get ready for his May 2nd fight against Manny Pacquiao, Zab Judah has noticed how much better Mayweather is since their fight in 2006.

Judah sees Mayweather as being “ten times” the fighter that he was back then, and he sees him as being so good that he sees him as a scientist that can get inside people’s heads.
