By Peter Wells: Former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto looks very likely now to be back in action on June 12th against WBA Light Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman. The fight is looking to be announced as early as next week, and agreements to the fight have run smoothly. Just a week ago this fight was just a rumour in talks, now it’s on the verge of being official. June 12th is a long time away, so don’t get too excited yet, but we do have plenty more to look forward to.

By Eric Thomas: According to writer Michael Marley of Boxing Confidential , former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) could be going after newly crowned WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) to try and capture his title. Foreman was linked as a possible alternate opponent for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao for March 13th.

By Eric Thomas: According to writer Michael Marley of Boxing Confidential, World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KO’s) won’t be facing WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) next. Marley states that Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, and adviser Michael Koncz said that Pacquiao wouldn’t be fighting Foreman next. This is bad news for Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, who badly wanted Pacquiao to fight Foreman next so that Manny could aim for his 8th world title win.

By William Mackay: Promoter Bob Arum says that he’s been given instructions from his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao to look for another fight, according to the Mirror. Arum says “We contacted Manny [Pacquiao], and his position is firm, irrevocable. He instructed us to pursue another fight, period. I don’t see the fight happening now.” Arum doesn’t exactly seem optimistic about making the huge potential mega fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao happen.

Yuri Foreman won the WBA belt against Cotto’s good friend Daniel Santos and after having talks with Pacquiao before Manny decided to fight Mayweather, he is now interested in bringing the Puerto Rican up a division.

The majority of boxing fans will respond ‘who’s that?’ and that is exactly my response. Pacquaio would have to gain more weight to fight this unknown fighter which in turn could end up being a big talking point in the Mayweather-Pacquiao match next year (which is going to happen, I don’t know why people keep talking bout it being canceled because it will definitely happen).
