Image: Foreman wants to fight Cotto instead of fighting on Mayweather-Pacquiao undercardBy Peter Wells: Two Top Rank promoted fighters Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto are looking to a Light Middleweight showdown for Yuri’s World Boxing Association title in June. Yuri Foreman won the WBA belt against Cotto’s good friend Daniel Santos and after having talks with Pacquiao before Manny decided to fight Mayweather, he is now interested in bringing the Puerto Rican up a division.

Foreman’s manager Murray Wilson has said both Miguel and Yuri want this fight to happen and he will be happy to fight in New York at the famous Madison Square Garden. Yuri Foreman has been given an offer to fight on the Mayweather-Pacquiao undercard, but would rather wait till June to fight Cotto at the Garden.

This would be a good opportunity for former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Cotto to rebuild his confidence but could also be risky if he isn’t able to get back to 147lbs again, but if the money is right he should take it, and he is also very interested as both Bob Arum and Wilson have said. There is no date set yet, but it should be in June.

Cotto will be the big favourite and would make for a great show on HBO, most likely it will be PPV, but I’m sure it will get plenty of buys. If Foreman does upset Cotto then most people will just say Miguel was out of his weight class, while others will want him to retire, while if Cotto wins people won’t be too shocked and both fighters will be able to carry on with their separate careers.
