By Eric Thomas: It’s been four months since former Cuban amateur star Yoan Pablo Hernandez (25-1, 13 KO’s) defeated IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (24-3, 12 KO’s) by a 6th round technical decision to capture his International Boxing Federation title, and now the two fighters are set to do it again next month on February 4th at the Fraport Arena in Frankfurt, Germany.

Can the cruiserweight Super Six succeed?
By William Mackay: Promotional company Sauerland Events is interested in putting together a cruiserweight Super Six tournament with the similar idea as Showtime’s Super Six tournament for super middleweights. In this case, Sauerland is picking the cruiserweight division, one of the weakest in all of boxing to showcase six lucky fighters. The fighters that have been mentioned for the tournament are as follows: Danny Green, Steve Cunningham, Enzo Maccarinelli, Krsysztof Wlodarczyk, Marco Huck and Yoan Pablo Hernandez. I’m not sure this will work as well as the existing Super Six tournament because there’s only one American involved rather than two. I noticed that there are two German based fighters in Sauerland’s proposed cruiserweight tournament with Huck and Hernandez.
Yoan Pablo Hernandez Decisions Aaron Williams
By Erik Schmidt: Stamina plagued Cuban cruiserweight Yoan Pablo Hernandez (19-1, 11 KOs) pulled off a surprising 8-round unanimous decision over former amateur star Aaron Williams (19-2-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Jako Arena, in Bamberg, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 79-76, 80-72 and 80-72.
Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Karo Murat and Sebastian Sylvester: Future Stars or Pretenders?
By Erik Schmidt: Last weekend at the Jahnsportforum, Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, German boxers Yoan Pablo Hernandez (18-1, 11 KOs), Sebastian Sylvester (30-3, 15 KOs) and Karo Murat (19-0, 12 KOs) were each successful in their matches against typically low quality opposition. However, in winning the fights, Hernandez, Sylvester and Murat showed little improvement on the deep flaws in their game and made it hard for me to see them as potential champions in the future despite their obvious talent.
Yoan Pablo Hernandez vs. Aaron Williams On Jan 24th
By Erik Schmidt: Two talented but flawed cruiserweight contenders Yoan Pablo Hernandez (17-1, 10 KOs) and Aaron Williams (19-1-1, 13 KOs) will meet in an eight-round bout on January 24th at the Erdgas Arena, Riesa, in Sachsen, Germany. Both fighters have excellent amateur backgrounds, winning a number of championships each, but finding the going slightly tough at the start of their pro careers.
Hernandez Defeats Simms
By Aaron Klein: Cruiserweight contender Yoan Pablo Hernandez (17-1, 10 KOs) survived a 7th round scare in which he was knocked down by his opponent, American journeyman Michael Simms (20-10-1, 13 KOs), but ultimately did enough to win an eight-round majority decision on Saturday night at the Weser-Ems-Halle, in Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany. Hernandez, 23, a former Cuban amateur star who now fights out of Germany, controlled most of the fight excluding the 7th round. He did, however, have problems with Simms’ big power shots that he would land sporadically throughout the fight, nailing Hernandez ever once in a while. In between those rare offensive flashes from Simms, Hernandez was busy building up a lead, landing hooks to the body and head and keeping Simms under a steady rain of punches.
Hernandez’s stamina problems once again seemed to resurface, as he began to tire by the 3rd round, sweating profusely, looking tired and worried. Simms was totally calm, and not wasting any energy whatsoever as he slowly walked Hernandez down. Whenever Hernandez would let up on his own shots for a second, Simms would wind up and hit with him with some tremendous shots to the head and body. After getting a good taste of a number of left hands from Simms, Hernandez seemed to think it was a good idea to try and continue throwing punches as much as possible to keep Simms on the defense.
